HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-81-0749• Vt & RESOLUTION NO. 8 1 ` 7 4 9 A RESOLUTION EXPRESSING THE DEEPEST SYMPATHY OF THE CITY COMMISSION ON BEHALF OF THE CITIZENS OF THE CITY OF MIAMI UPON THE DEATH OF ROY WILKINS AND RECOGNIZING HIS ACCOMPLISHMENTS IN THE FIELD OF RACIAL EQUALITY TO THE BETTERMENT OF EVERY COMMUNITY IN THIS COUNTRY. WHEREAS, the death of Roy Wilkins results in a monumental loss to this Nation; and T' WHEREAS, the foremost champion of Civil and Voting Rights labored through the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People in search of economic and political justice for Black persons in our society; and WHEREAS, all of the people of the City of Miami join in paying tribute to the memory of this great American hero; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The City Commission hereby expresses the deepest sympathy on the part of the Citizens of the City of Miami upon the death of Roy Wilkins. Section 2. The City Commission hereby acknowledges and recognizes the benefits and gains bestowed upon this community and the Nation through the accomplishments and heroic efforts of Roy Wilkins in his quest for racial equality.
