ENCLOSURES
As a follow-up to your inquiry regarding the status of funding
to NEDA (Miami Office), the following was ascertained by way of
conversation with local officials representing the Minority
Business Development Agency, U.S. Department of Commerce.
Mr. Rudy Suarez of MBDA pointedly stated that NEDA absolutely would
not receive any funds from his agency for fiscal year, 81-82, in
fact, Suarez assured me that MBDA funds had been let for competitive
bid and that a firm based in New York had definitely been awarded
the contract for services to the South Florida area.
Based on these findings, I would reiterate my recommendation against
the City's funding of NEDA on a continuing basis. Moreover, such
support would be duplicative our efforts through Miami Capital
Development, Inc. In addition, MCDI would be pleased to pick up
the current NEDA caseload and provide the financial packaging
services requested by those clients.
