HomeMy WebLinkAboutItem #35 - Discussion ItemOn behalf of the present and future small Group Operator
Living Facilities in the City of Miami, I would like to be
placed on the October Agenda -for the Commission Meeting. I
am asking for a change in the Comprehensive Zoning Ordinance,
Community Based Residential Facilities, #6871.
This change pertains to the number of clients living in
the home for Small Group Living Facilities in the City of
Miami, and my reasonsfor requesting these changes are the
following. 1) The ordinance discriminates against the natural
born disabled citizenry and classifies them with the:hard core
criminals, drug addicts and alcoholics. 2) There are less than
10 Small Group Homes in the City of Miami. 3) Small Living
Facility Operators cannot afford to operate with less than 6
clients, whereas Dade County Ordinance provides for 6 and there
are other states that provide for 8 to 10 clients in a home.
HRS is in agreement that it is not economically feasible and
it would bea,:waist of tax payers money to open up homes with less
than the above statednumber. 4) The City of Miami Communities,
Liberty City and Little Havana is experiencing serious overcrowded
conditions in housing and it is almost impossible to find less
than 2 persons per household.
_ It is obvious that the above clients mentioned will not have
an opportunity to live in the City of Miami. I stongly urge
that the City of Miami Commission change this section of the
Comprehensive Zoning Ordinance for the Community Based Residential
Facilities, #6871, to eliminate the discrimination that now
exists in the Clause pertaining to Number of Occupants.
Yours Truly,
