KNIGHT INTERNATIONAL CENTER BY AUTHORIZING ADDITIONAL PAYMENT FOR THESE SERVICES IN THE AMOUNT OF $35,000 ON A RETAINER BASIS; AUTHORIZING PAYMENT FOR THE AFORESAID SERVICES FROM FUNDS ALLOCATED FOR ADMINISTRA- TIVE EXPENSES OF SAID CENTER CONSTRUCTION; FURTHER PROVIDING THAT NO MONIES IN EXCESS OF THE HEREIN AUTHORIZED SUM BE EXPENDED FOR SUCH SERVICES UNLESS EXPRESSLY AUTHORIZED BY THE CITY COMMISSION. WHEREAS, Frank J. Rooney, Inc., the City's general contractor for the construction of the City of Miami/University of Miami James L. Knight International Center has placed the City on notice as to possible litigation concerning the completion date of the said Center; and WHEREAS, Florida Steel Corporation, as the subcontractor for Frank J. Rooney, Inc. furnishing and erecting the structural steel, has also placed the City on such notice; and WHEREAS, the complexities of this project require the City to have expert advice in the field of contract litigation to best serve the interests of the City of Miami; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The City Attorney is hereby authorized to continue the employment of the law firm of Steel, Hector & Davis as special counsel on a retainer basis with an additional $25,000 hereby being authorized as compensation for said law firm's service, authorizing payment for the aforesaid services from funds allocated for administrative expenses of said Center's construction. i CITY COMMISSION MEETING OF f J A N 14 1982 RESOW MN N0...„...82,.........,,.. Please note from the statement a request for a retainer in the amountof $25,000 in payment of future legal services to be rendered during 1982. I am at the moment preparing a resolution to be placed on the City Commission Agenda authorizing the approval of the additional $25,000 retainer.
