HomeMy WebLinkAboutM-82-0113PETITION TO THE CITY COMMISSION City of Miami, Florida February 11, 1982 ._\ PETITION IN WE, the undersigned residents and property owners of Southwest 13th Avenue, do hereby petition the Miami City Commission to preserve the quiet residential quality of our neighborhood by declining to approve the construction of a new monument to be located between 11th and 12th Streets SW. We believe that the median strip of our street is not a suitable place for a monument that will certainly become a rally, point and a place where large numbers of persons will congregate; Where there is no off-street parking for visitors, and even now where drivers park illegally on the median strip when there are events that bring crowds to SW Eighth Street. In these times when just the presence of strangers in our neighborhoods can be disquieting and raise suspicions, we believe that such a memorial as is being proposed will create ill will and foster an undesirable and negative attitude toward the Organization proposing to erect the monument. In reality, we believe that the plan to build a lasting monument to Cuban political prisoners is fully meritorious, and :ieserves support of all freedom loving people, and therefore, We respectfully request that the Commissioners of the City of Miami honor our Petition and vote to sustain our position that this monument properly belongs in a prominent place in a Public Park where it can and will be enjoyed by all of the people of Miami. Presented this 11th day of February, 1982.
