HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-82-0116r RESOLUTION NO. 8 2- 1 1 6 A RESOLUTION APPROVING THE ATTACHED PROPOSED AMENDMENTS TO THE GARMENT CENTER/FASHION DISTRICT REDEVELOPMENT LAND ACQUISITION PLAN AND RECOMMEND- ING APPROVAL OF SAID AMENDMENTS BY THE DADE COUNTY BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS; EXTENDING SUPPORT TO JOINT CITY/COUNTY REDEVELOPMENT EFFORTS AND DIRECTING THE CITY ADMINISTRATION TO WORK JOINTLY WITH METROPOLITAN DADE COUNTY TO EFFECT THE SAID AMENDED LAND ACQUISITION PLAN. WHEREAS, under the provisions of Chapter 163, Part III of Florida Statutes known as the Community Redevelopment Act of 1969, as amended, the City of Miami may designate a slum, or a blighted area or a combination thereof, as appropriate for a Community Redevelopment Project; and WHEREAS, the City Commission adopted the Miami Comprehen- sive Plan 1976-86 (Resolution No. 77-430) which recommended the redevelopment of the blighted residential development south of the existing Garment Center/Fashion District for activities associated with the Garment Center/Fashion District; and WHEREAS, the City Commission approved the Garment Center/Fashion District Redevelopment Plan (Resolution No. 79-553) which designated land for public acquisition for redevelopment for industrial purposes; and WHEREAS, under the provisions of Chapter 163, Part III of Florida Statutes known as the Community Redevelopment Act of 1969, as amended, Metropolitan Dade County, Florida, (hereinafter called Dade County) I is required to approve all Community Redevelopment Plans; and WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of Dade County, Florida, is the duly empowered and authorizing governing body of Dade County for purposes of approving such Plans; and WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of Dade County, has approved the Garment Center/Fashion District Redevelopment Plan (Resolution No. R-389-80) which designated land for public acquisi- tion for redevelopment for industrial purposes; and WHEREAS, the City of Miami is desirous of removing additional blighted and underdeveloped commercial properties expanding CITY COMMISSION MEETING OF F E B 1 1 1982 •1 REWUMON NO....82.................. W OIL opportunities for industrial expansion and retaining the nucleus of the garment industry within the City of Miami; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. It is hereby found, determined and declared that the matters set out in the foregoing recitals are true and correct and they are hereby incorporated into the herein resolution. Section 2. The Garment Center/Fashion District Land Acquisi- tion Plan Amendments, as set forth in the attached proposed Amend- ments are hereby approved. Section 3. The City Commission hereby recommends to the Dade County Board of County Commissioners that the Garment Center/Fashion District Land Acquisition Plan Amendments be approved. Section 4. The City Commission hereby extends its support to joint City/County redevelopment efforts in the Garment Center/Fashion District Community Redevelopment Area and directs the City Adminis- tration to work jointly with Metropolitan Dade County to effect the said Amended Land Acquisition Plan. The changes are primarily cosmetic in nature and call for physical attachment in Item #23 of the amendments proposed to be made to the Land Acquisition Plan. In some limited cases only the structure may be acquired , if the nronerty owner agrees to develop the land in comformance with the plan.
