S 2' 1 8 9 A RESOLUTION DECLARING FRIDAY, MARCH 12, 1982, TO BE "A CITY UNDER GOD DAY" IN THE CITY OF MIAMI; FURTHER PROVIDING THAT A PROGRAM ENTITLED "A CITY UNDER GOD" TAKE PLACE AT 12 NOON ON SAID DATE AT BAYFRONT PARK; DIRECTING THE CITY MANAGER TO APPOINT A STEERING COMMITTEE OF DESIGNATED MEMBERS TO WORK WITH HIM IN PLANNING AND PROMOTING THIS EVENT; FURTHER DIRECTING THE CITY MANAGER TO APPOINT A TEMPORARY PROGRAM COMMITTEE MADE UP OF DESIGNATED MEMBERS TO PREPARE A PRELIMINARY PRO- GRAM FOR SAID EVENT; AND FURTHER DIRECTING THE CITY MANAGER TO APPOINT AN EXTENDED PROGRAM COMMITTEE OF DESIGNATED MEMBERS TO PREPARE THE FINAL PROGRAM FOR SAID EVENT. WHEREAS, in the past, the City of Miami observed the tradition of "A City Under God" gathering with the participation of civic and religious leaders of the community; and WHEREAS, the City currently faces serious problems which threaten and disturb its residents and which are causing damage to its image before the nation and the world; and WHEREAS, the City is composed of multiple ethnic and cultural groups that need a strong unifying principle to help weld them as one community; and WHEREAS, the City recognizes the power and goodness of God as the greatest source of help and strength for this community and its leaders, and recognizes the need to thank God for the many blessings God has showered on the City of Miami; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. March 12, 1982, Friday, is hereby declared to be "A City Under God Day" in the City of Miami. Section 2. The Program "A City Under God" will take place in Bayfront Park at 12 Noon, Friday, March 12, 1982. Section 3. The City Manager is hereby directed to appoint a Steering Committee to work with him to plan and promote said event and the following religious leaders who petitioned the City Commission for said event are hereby designated as executive members of said Steering Committee: Bishop Agustin Roman Rev. The following religious and civic leaders are hereby designated to serve as members of said Steering Committee: Archbishop Edward McCarthy Rabbi Sol Landau Rabbi William Lipson Rev. Tedford Johnson Rev. Lloyd Knox Rev. Kenneth Major Rev. Manuel B. Salabarria Rev. Fritz Bagin Right Rev. Calvin Scoffield Sister Joyce LaVoy Sister Margaret Thomas E. Diego Eloy Gonzalez Gen. Evaristo Marina Mrs. D. Poitier Frank Diaz Pou Section 5. The City Manager is hereby instructed to appoint a Temporary Program Committee to prepare a preliminary program for said event and the following religious leaders are hereby designated as members of the said Temporary Program Committee: Bishop Agustin Roman Rev. Martin Anorga Rev. E. F. Gruell Rev. Marco A. Ramos Rev. Max Salvador Section 6. The City Manager is hereby instructed to appoint an Extended Program Committee to prepare the final program for said event and the following religious leaders are hereby designated to serve as members of the said Extended Program Committee: Bishop Agustin Roman Rev.
