Gary, City Manager 3500 Pan American Drive Miami, Florida, 33133 Dear Mi . Gait The ASTA Host Committee respectfully requests the opportunity to appear before the Miami City Commission for the purpose of soliciting the City's support for the 1982 ASTA World Congress. Such support is considered vital to the success of this important convention. Preparation for ASTA, which will be held October 10-16, 1982, requires a tremendous outlay of time, energy and community support. It would be appreciated if we could be placed on the agend for the next City Commission meeting so that we may be guided by the Commission's will and, hopefully, their invaluable commitment. We are to request funding for the Congress during the period of its conventing in Miami, for the following - purposes. 1. Usage of James L. Knight Convention Center 2. Usage of Coconut Grove Exhibition Center 3. Police Security at sensitive meeting points, particularly where members of the Cuban Tourism Mission and the Soviet Intourist Bureau are known to be present. 4. An increase in the activity of sanitation personnel in the downtown area during the Congress. Our estimate of the total cost of facility usage and personnel funding is estimated to be $90,000.
