A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO
NEGOTIATE AN AGREEMENT WITH MIAMI MOTORSPORTS,
INC. TO SPONSOR AN INTERNATIONAL MOTOR SPORTS
ASSOCIATION RACE IN DOWNTOWN MIAMI, GENERALLY
WITH THE BOUNDARIES OF BISCAYNE BAY ON THE
EAST, N.E. SECOND AVENUE ON THE WEST,
N.E. FIFTH STREET ON THE NORTH, AND S.E.
SECOND AVENUE ON THE SOUTH, ON THE WASHINGTON"S
BIRTHDAY HOLIDAY WEEKEND DURING THE MONTH OF
FEBRUARY, 19839 AND FOR A MINIMUM OF FOUR (4)
YEARS THEREAFTER ON THE SAME HOLIDAY WEEKEND.
WHEREAS, on February 11, 1982, the City Commission passed Motion 82-81,
which approved the holding of an automobile race in downtown Miami; and
WHEREAS, the City Commission stipulated that all safety precautions be
taken by the sponsoring organization; and
WHEREAS, Miami Motorsports, Inc. has met with the Departments of Fire,
Police, Sanitation, and the office of the City Manager and has agreed to meet all
requirements set forth by these Departments; and
WHEREAS, Miami Motorsports, Inc. has agreed to provide insurance coverage
for this event and to erect all necessary safety barriers; and
WHEREAS, Miami Motorsports, Inc. has agreed to pay for all extraordinary
city services required and further use of any necessary city facilities; and
WHEREAS, in order to obtain a firm commitment from the sanctioning
organization (IMSA) for this event, Miami Motorsports, Inc. requires the approval
and support of the City of Miami Commission; and
WHEREAS, the Orange Bowl Committee, the Dade County Department of
Tourism, the Downtown Motel Owners, and the Downtown Miami Business Association
have all indicated their support for this event; and
WHEREAS, national television networks have indicated interest in partici-
pating in this event.
FLORIDA:
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI,
Section 1. The City Manager is hereby authorized to negotiate all
necessary agreements pursuant to the holding of an automobile race in downtown
Miami in February, 1983, including, but not limited to the closing of the appro-
priate streets, and the use of Bayfront Auditorium and adjacent parking.

Section 2. The said agreements are to be negotiated with Miami
Motorsports, Inc. who will sponsor the International Motor Sports
Association Race to be held generally within the boundaries of
Biscayne Bay on the East, N.E. Second Avenue on the West, N.E. Fifth
Street on the North, and S.E. Second Avenue on the South, on George
Washington's Birthday Holiday Weekend during the month of February,
1983, and thereafter for a minimum of four (4) years on the same
Holiday Weekend with options for renewal.
PASSED AND ADOPTED this 11 day of MARCH , 1982.
