A RESOLUTION EXPRESSING SUPPORT FOR THE
CONVENTION OF THE AMERICAN SOCIETY OF TRAVEL
AGENTS (ASTA) TO BE HELD IN THE CITY OF
MIAMI DURING OCTOBER, 1982.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA:
Section 1. The Convention of the American Society of
Travel Agents (ASTA) to be held in the City of Miami during October,
1982, is supported by the Commission of the City of Miami, Florida.
Section 2. The members of the City Commission hereby
record their personal displeasure in the fact that representatives
from Cuba and the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics may attend said
ASTA Convention but also recognize the fact that foreign policy is a
matter exclusively reserved unto the federal government of the United
States of America.
Section 3. The sensitivity of the local community in
regard to the attendance at said ASTA Convention by representatives
of Cuba and the Soviet Union is hereby recognized by the members
of the City Commision butthe City Commission members are also aware
of the benefits to the community that will result from said ASTA
Convention.
Section 4. The City Commission hereby records its position
that any person who is not a member of the American Society of Travel
Agents and who attends the ASTA Convention representing a country which
the federal government does not recognize is not welcome in the City
of Miami.

RESOLUTION
A resolution from the City Commission expressing their support for ASTA
to convene in the City of Miami in October, 1982.
The Commission is on record expressing their personal displeasure in the
fact that representatives from Cuba and the Soviet Union may attend the
Convention, but recognizes the fact that foreign policy is a matter Tr
Federal government. The Commission also recognizes the sensitivity of
this community in regard to the attendance of those countries but is
aware of the benefits that ASTA will bring to this community.
j Therefore, the -Commission wishes to go on record that any country which
