Resolution urging the Fed. Govt.
to grant permanent status to
Nicaraguan Refugees
Pursuant to my motion at today's Commission meeting, following is an
abstract of the main points that should be incorporated into the text
of the resolution.
1. That the City of Miami supports the ages -old principle of
political asylum, as set forth by tradition and by International
Law.
2. That the Nicaraguan refugees living in Miami and other parts of the
United States, have been forced to come to this country due to the
political situation created by the totalitarian and Communist
government of Nicaragua.
3. That due to the political nature of their case, the Inmigration
and Naturalization Service grant them permanent status in this
country, and thus legalize their means to work and pursue a
normal life.
4. That we send a copy of the resolution to President Reagan as
we have done in matters dealing with the status of Haitian and
Cuban refugees.
