RE: APPEARANCE BEFORE THE CITY COMMISSION ON MAY 13, 1982
(_,
AT'tN: Mr. Jack Eads
Dear Mr. Eads:
Please be advised that I am the attorney for the South Florida Free
Beaches Inc., a Florida non-profit corporation. The officers of
said corporation and I would like to be placed on the City Commission
Agenda for May 13, 1982 so that we may appear before said body and
request a resolution concerning the proposed use of Virginia Key
and the land recently acquired from Dade County.
As you may already know, a certain section of the existing public
beach on Virginia Key has been a clothing optional area for some
time. This situation has been tolerated and permitted by the city
police department since the legality of such activity is in doubt
or uncertain at this time. However, said organization, which has the
promotion of clothing optional beaches as its primary goal, has been
advised that the proposed plans for the development of Virginia Key
do not provide for a continuation of the clothing optional beach and
the police department has indicated it will began enforcing a ban on
nude bathing on the public beaches in the near future unless such
activity is legalized formally.
Therefore, this organization requests an appearance before the City
Commission in support of a resolution designating an area of Virginia
Key for clothing optional bathing and providing for appropriate
demarkation, posting and supervision. We request to be put on the
agenda for May 13, 1982 so as not to compete with zoning or budget
matters.
Thank you for your cooperation and assistance and please advise us
accordingly.
I
ery tru y u s,
ROBERT S. KOR HUN
