Odio Assistant City Manager City of Miami 3500 Pan American Drive Miami, Florida 33133 Dear Mr. Odio: March 12, 1982 PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT _ BRICKELL PLAZA BUILDING FOURTH FLOOR 909 S.E. 1ST AVENUE MIAM!, FLORIDA 33131 RE: Proposed Monument SW 13th Avenue median between SW 11th & 12th Streets In response to your February 19, 1982, request, we recommend that a monument not be placed in the median of SW 13th Avenue. Another location out of the public right-of-way, perhaps within a City park, would be preferred. From the drawing you submitted, it appears that the monument would be located approximately seven to eight feet from an existing driving lane. In the interest of highway safety, we desire to minimize the number of rigid and fixed objects within the public right-of-way. Monuments tend to draw interest by motorists, pedestrians, and others. The sub- ject placement would require crossing of a driving lane by pedestrians and the potential for parking on the sodded median. Should children or others tend to congregate at the monument their attention may stray from the roadway conditions and potential vehicle -pedestrian conflicts in their immediate vicinity. Very truly yours, William M. Powell Director WMP:DCR:nt .. 82-378 f /:_ ::a:"':x !?:f.C`h `i. ... .... .1 ...i'•.rC1:lX.!{=;.F: «•.1. .. , v = CITY OF MIAMI.
