A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO ACCEPT
$84,410 FROM THE U. S. DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE
FOR A SUMMER FOOD SERVICE PROGRAM FOR CHILDREN AND
AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE THE NECESSARY
AGREEMENT FOR IMPLEMENTATION OF THE PROGRAM.
WHEREAS, the Florida Department of Education, Food and Nutrition
Management has granted on behalf of the U. S. Department of Agriculture,
$84,410 to the City of Miami to carry out a Summer Food Service Program
for children; and
WHEREAS, this program will provide free summer lunches for children
within the parks of the City of Miami, from June 21 to August 13, 1982.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI, FLORIDA:
Section 1. The City Manager is hereby authorized to accept a
grant award from the U. S. Department of Agriculture, in the amount of
$84,410 for a Summer Food Service Program for children.
Section 2. The City Manager is hereby authorized to execute the
necessary contract(s) and/or agreement(s) to implement this program.

It is recommended that the City Manager be authorized to accept
a grant award in the amount of $84,410 from the U. S. Department
of Agriculture for a Summer Food Service Program, and execute
the necessary contract as per the attached resolution.
Purpose: The purpose of this resolution is to authorize the City Manager
to accept a grant award in the amount of $84,410 from the U. S.
Department of Agriculture for a Summer Food Service Program and,
further, execute the necessary contracts for its implementation.
Funding: This program has allocated $84,410 to the City to provide flee
summer lunches for children in thirteen (13) parks in the City
during the months from June 21st through August 13, 1982.
Approximately thirteen hundred (1,300) youngsters will be served
daily.
Background: The Summer Food Service Program for Children has been a successful
program for many years, predominately serving the disadvantaged
youth of the City who otherwise might go without a nourishing
lunch time meal.
Therefore, it is the recommendation of the Department of Recreation
- that the City Manager be authorized to accept this grant and
execute the necessary contract for its implementation as per the
attached resolution.
