RESOLUTION NO.cy 2
A RESOLUTION CALLING UPON THE DEPARTMENT
OF STATE OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA
TO KEEP OPEN ITS CONSULATE OFFICES IN
COLOMBIA, SOUTH AMERICA, SINCE ACTION TO
THE CONTRARY WILL SERIOUSLY CURTAIL THE
STEADY FLOW OF COLOMBIAN TOURISTS, INVESTORS,
AND MERCHANTS TO THE SOUTH FLORIDA AREA AND
IN PARTICULAR TO THE CITY OF MIAMI WHOSE
ECONOMY HAS BEEN BENEFITED BY OVER 300
MILLION DOLLARS ANNUALLY SPENT BY COLOMBIAN
TOURISTS, INVESTORS AND MERCHANTS.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA:
Section 1. The Department of State of the United States
of America is hereby urged to keep open its consulates in
Colombia, South America.
Section 2. It is hereby shown that closing the American
Consulates in Colombia, South America, will seriously curtail
the steady flow of Colombian tourists, investors and merchants
to the South Florida area and, in particular, to the City of
Miami because obtaining visas to travel to the United States
will be made more difficult.
Section 3. It is hereby shown that the economy of South
Florida and, in particular, the City of Miami is benefited by
over 300 million dollars annually spent in this area by Colombian
Nationals.
Section 4. The Department of State of the United States
of America is hereby urged to find alternatives to its budgetary
constraints other than closing consulates in Colombia because
such action will be a detriment to the economy of the South
Florida area and, in particular, the City of Miami.
Section 5. The City Clerk of the City of Miami is hereby
dt'rected to forward a copy of this resolution to Bill Cramer,
Lobbyist in Washington; to our two senators, Paula Hawkins and
Lawton Chiles; to our Congressional delegation, Bill Lehman,
Dante Fascell and Claude Pepper, and to Mr. David Stockman,
Director of Office of Management and Budget. CITY COMMISMON
