SUBJECT S. E. 4 STREET PAVING PROJECT
Resolution for Increase in
Scope and Contract Amount
FROM Donald W. Cather REFERENCES
l
Qirect of Public Works (For Commission Meeting `/ ENCLOSURES. of June 17, 1982)
The Department of Public Works recommends
the adoption of a resolution authorizing an
increase in scope and an increase in the
contract between the City of Miami and FRE
Construction Co., Inc. in an amount not to
exceed $15,000 for S. E. 4 STREET PAVING
PROJECT; allocating the additional amount
of $15,000 from Highway G.O. Bond Funds.
We have become aware that necessary work on S. E. Second
Avenue in front of the new City of Miami/University of Miami
James L. Knight International Center is not included in either
the Convention Center contracts or the S. E. 4 STREET PAVING
PROJECT. The Public Works Department recommends that an
increase in scope and contract amount be authorized for the
S. E. 4 STREET PAVING PROJECT to allow us to do the work.
Unit prices already exist in the contract to cover most of
the work.
The work consists of removal and replacement of approximately
100 feet of sidewalk, the cutting down of an existing retain-
ing wall, and the removal of an existing bridge railing. Ile
estimate the cost of the work to be $6,000.
The original contract contained a $20,000 Provision for Special
Items, and, to date, with the construction approximately 50
percent completed, we have used or committed to use virtually
all of it. Our expenditures from the Provisions for Special
Items have been greater than anticipated because of the pre-
ponderance of underground obstructions encountered by the
contractor and for which changes to his work had to be made.
We recommend an increase in contract of $15,000 to fund the
work included in the increase in scope and to provide the
$9,000 to replenish the depleted Provisions for Special Items.
F nds for the increase would come from Highway G.O. Bond Funds.
