Resolution allocating funds
for a donation to the 1982
United Way Campaign
It is recommended that the City of Miami
make a donation in support of the 1982
United Way Campaign in the sum of $10,000.00,
allocated from the Special Programs and Accounts -
Contingency Fund.
Given major federal cutbacks in the amount of funds made available
to community service, non-profit organizations, and the fact that
these organizations render a viable and needed service to our community ,
it is hereby recommended that the City of Miami, a municipal corporation
of the State of Florida, make a donation of $10,000.00 to the 1982
United Way Campaign of Dade County. These funds are to be appropriated
from the Special Programs and Accounts- Contingency Fund.

This will serve as a follow-up to Mayor Maurice Ferrets
comments at the May 11, 1982 City of Miami United Way Celebration.
On behalf of the more than 500,000 local citizens served
through the 69 United lvay funded agencies and programs, I
respectfully request the City of Aliami Commission's consideration
of a $10,000 gift to the 1982 United Way Campaign.
The United Way and the City of Miami have a long history of
cooperation in attempting to meet the human service needs of
this community. This cooperation is exhibited annually
tlirough the employees of the City of Miami who volunteer
their time not only to raise funds, but to assist the United
flay and its funded agencies in numerous other voluntary
roles.
The City of Miami's consideration of such a gift is a first.
The granting of the request will reflect the spirit of
cooperation which leas long existed and will set the pace for
continuation of the important services funded through the
United Way's annual campaign.
We look forward to the City Commission's early consideration
of this request.
Sincerely, 00
