A RESOLUTION APPOINTING RALPH JOHNSON
AS A MEMBER OF THE ARTS IN PUBLIC PLACES
COMMITTEE, TO SERVE A TERM EXPIRING
MAY 19, 1983.
WHEREAS, pursuant to Ordinance 8759, adopted
February 23, 1978, five individuals shall be appointed
by the City Commission to serve on the Arts in Public
Places Committee; and
WHEREAS, in January 1982, Ron Frazier, a member
of the committee, tendered his resignation, thereby
creating a vacancy on the committee; and
WHEREAS, in accordance with paragraph (1) of
Section 18-10 of the City Code, nomination for membership
on the committee shall be provided to the City Commission
by a three member nominating panel consisting of a rep-
resentative from the Cultural Executives Council, Inc.,
the South Florida Chapter of the American Institute of
Architects, and the Dade County Council of Arts and
Sciences; and
WHEREAS, the nominating committee has submitted
a list of qualified candidates in accordance with Section
18-10 of the City Code for consideration in ranked order;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION
OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA:
Section 1. Ralph Johnson is hereby ap-
pointed as a member of the Arts in Public Places Committee,
to serve a term expiring May 19, 1983.

It is recommended that the City Commission
appoint an individual to the Arts in Public
Places Committee to fill a vacancy created
by the resignation of committee member,
Ron Frazier, per the attached resolution.
On January 26, 1982, Ron Frazier, a member of the Arts in Public
Places Committee, tendered his resignation from the Committee.
Mr. Frazier had been appointed by the City Commission to serve
until May 19, 1983.
Under paragraph (1) of Section 18-10 of the City Code, adopted by
Ordinance 8759 on February 23, 1978, nominations for membership
are to be provided to the City Commission by a three member nomi-
nating panel consisting of a representative of the Cultural
Executive Council, Inc., the South Florida Chapter of the American
Institute of Architects, and the Dade County Council of Arts and
Sciences.
Committee vacancies are to be made by the City Commission from a
list of names provided by the panel, with two nominees for each
vacant position.
The Committee presently consists of the following members:
Robert B. Browne, Chairman (WM)-term expires 5-19-83
Lester Pancoast (WM)-term expires 9-1-86
Nora Swan (WF)-term expires 5-19-83
Margarita Canno (LF)-term expires 11-1-86
Seven names were submitted to the nominating panel for consideration.
They have ranked the candidates in groups of two, with Group I
representing their first choice of nominees to be considered for
the vacancy:

hereby as applications of skill and taste to
production of tangible objects according to
nesthetic principles, including, but not limited
to, paintings, sculpture, engravings, carvings,
frescos, mobiles, murals, collages, mosaics,
statutes, bas-reliefs, tapestries, photographs

(2) Persons wishing to nominate others for
membership on the committee, or persons
seeking to be nominated themselves as
committee members, may furnish their
names directly to the nominating panel,
as well as to members of the city
commission, who will forward said names
to the nominating panel for a review and
analysis of the qualifications of those

(3) Anyone whose name is received by the
nominating panel must agree to serve, if
appointed, before he or she is nominated
by the panel.
(4) The five (5) initial committee members

Sec. 18-22. Form of registration.
There shall be printed upon the reverse of
bonds provided for in the preceding section

of Miami by the Director of Finance of said
City as Bond Registrar or by such other
Bond Registrar as may be legally appointed
by the governing body of said City,
notation of such registry to be made hereon

thereafter be transferred on said Bond
Register only upon a written assignment of
the registered owner or his attorney, duly
acknowledged or proved, such transfer to be
endorsed hereon by the Bond Registrar.
Unless this bond be registered as to both
principal and interest, such transfer may be
to bearer and thereby transferability by
delivery shall be restored, subject, however,
to successive registrations and transfers as
before. The principal of this bond, if
registered, shall be payable only to the
registered owner or his legal representative.
Notwithstanding the registration of this
bond, the coupons shall remain payable to
bearer and shall continue to be transferable
by delivery, unless this bond shall be in like
manner registered as to both principal and
interest, notation whereof and of the
cancellation of unmatured coupons is to be
made on this bond, after which registration
both principal and interest hereof shall be
payable to the person in whose name it is
registered, or his legal representative.

1980-1981. ORICHA LTD., GENERAL PARTNER. Company formed to promote the under-
standing of Afroamerican Culture through art. Responsible for the commissioning
of The Oricha Collection depicting the major Yoruba Gods and their americaniza-
tion. This collection was shown for the benefit of the International Childrens
Fund of the Jackson Memorial hospital, University of Miami, at The Bacardi Art
Gallery. Subsequently shown at Koubek Center (Univ. of Miami) will be travelling
to the cities of Washington, New York, Boston and New Orleans under the auspice
of different charities who will use it in fund raising.
