INTER-OFFICEMEMdNANDUM ITO Mr. Howard V. Gary June 29, City Manager 1 O.L'.Mullins Purchasing Agent 1982 Recommendation for Resolution and Award of Bid: No. 81-82-90, Remo, ial of Abandoned Vehicles Award of Bid, Resolution It is recommended that the award be made and a resolution be passed accepting the most advan- tageous bid as received from Nothing, Inc. for furnishing Removal of Abandoned Vehicles with navment to the Citv at a_total cost of $42.00 for each vehicle removed. Pursuant to public notice, sealed bids were received May 28, 1982 for furnishing Removal of Abandoned Vehicles on a contract basis for one year for the Department of Solid Waste. Invitations were mailed to 17 potential suppliers and 4 bids were received as listed on the Award of Bid. The pick up of abandoned vehicles became the City's responsibility in December 1979 when Dade County abdicated that responsibility. The Department of Solid Waste estimates that approximately 1,200 vehicles per year must be removed. To utilize the Police Depart- ment's towing service at $15.00 per vehicle, the cost to the City would be $18,000.00. Bid invitations requested the following options: 1. Remove the vehicles at no charge to the City. 2. Remove the vehicles and charge a fee to the City. 3. Remove the vehicles and pay the City. Two bids were received for number 1 and two bids for number 3. Award of the contract to Nothing, Inc. will produce revenue to the City of approximately $50,400.00 The Department of Solid Waste concurs with this recommendation. ALM:an x" , S2-633.
