SUBJECT: III Interamerican Regional Seminar
October 20-22, 1982 - Miami, Florida
The Interamerican Accounting Association is the organization
that represents the accounting profession in the American Continent.
It has evolved as follows.
The First Interamerican Conference of Accounting was held in
San Juan, Puertt);Rico, in 1949. Several countries of this Hemisphere
attended this Conference: Cuba was one of them. The Fifth Conference,
scheduled to be held in Havana, Cuba, in 1960, had to be postponed due
to the unstable political situation in Cuba at that time and never
took place.
In 1961, the accountants who left Cuba organized in Miami their
association under the name of Association of Accountants of Cuba in
Exile (AACE). Representatives of this association attended the Sixth
Interamerican Conference of Accounting held in New York in 1962, where
the RACE was recognized as a member of the Conference representing
Cuba: in this character it has attended all the following conferences.
The 25th Silver Anniversary of the Interamerican Conference of
Accounting was commemorated in San Juan, Puerto Rico, in 1974. This
was the XI Conference and since then the conference became an association
under the name of Interamerican Accounting Association (IAA).
After the XIII Interamerican Conference of Accounting„ held in
Panama in 1979, the Executive C omnittee of the Association (IAA) realized
that to better reach the goals of the Association it was neces ar to r-

exchange the technical experiences of the members more frequently,
since the Conference is held every two years only. With this purpose
in mind, the I Interamerican Regional Seminar was organized and held
in Bogota, Colombia, in June, 1981. In April, 1982, the II Interamerican
Regional Seminar was held in Lima, Peru, with the participation of more
than 230 accountants from several countries of this Continent. The
Seminars were so successful that they gained the name of Mini -Conferences.
After the II Seminar, the Executive Committee of the Interamerican
Accounting Association requested from the Association of Accountants of
Cuba in Exile to sponsor the III Seminar, to be held in Miami, Florida,
on October 20-i2; '1982. In addition, the Executive Committee of the
Association (IAA) will also be in Miami to hold its semi-annual
meeting, prior to the Seminar, on October 18-20, 1982.
The Association of Accountants of Cuba in Exile has appointed an
organizational committee and weekly meetings have been held since the
beginning of May, 1982, to plan for the Seminar. The place selected
for it is the Hyatt Regency Hotel, which together with the City of
Miami Convention Center and the University of Miami Conference Center,
integrate the James L. Knight International Conference Center.
Based on the previous experience of the Association (AACE) on
this kind of events, like the II Convention of Cuban Accountants, held
in Miami Beach in 1978, we estimate an attendance of approximately
500 accountants from the Latin American countries, the United States
and Canada.
The "Impact of the Computers in the Modern Business" is the main
technical subject of the III Seminar. Several manufacturers of
computers will exhibit and demonstrate their products. Also, well
known national and international speakers will be in attendance.
The organizational committee is very enthusiastic in the prepara-
tion of the III Seminar because we want to bring to our City of Miami
the forthcoming 1984 Interamerican Conference of Accounting. This
event will represent an attendance of more than 2,000 accountants from
the Western Hemisphere. We know that to reach this goal we must do a
great effort to make the III Interamerican Regional Seminar the best
one ever.
A budget has been prepared for the cost of the III Seminar. A
determination has been made that approximately an additional cash
requirement of $30,000 is needed to cover expenses in order to reach
our goals. Therefore, we are requesting from you a contribution from
the City of Miami to cover this requirement, as well as any other
help that the City could offer toward the advertising and promotion
of the III Seminar.
Because of the adverse propagarrda received by our City from the
media in the last two years, events like the III Interainc_rican Regional
Seminar are the best means to change in Latin America the falsely
projected image of Miami and to rebuild the old one as the "bright"
bridge to Latin America.
WE FIRMLY BELIEVE 111TS CAN BE ACCOMPLISHED THROUGH OUR EFFORTS
AND YOUR HELP!
