Dear Mr. Gary:
I am submitting this letter to serve as a request to make an
appearance before the next City of Miami Commission Meeting
as Founder/Director of The Coconut Grove Children's Theatre Inc.
and in behalf of'.;he 250 children directly served by our program
and the over 40, 000 cultivated youth who have been enriched,
educated, and entertained through our various vehicles for the
past ten years.
Because of Relocations, Renovations, Burglary, Less Scholarship
Funding. etc. We are now facing a deficit of G25,000.00.
Our financial situation is of such that unless we receive monetary
assistance immediately the 1982/83"Season can not be considered.
We have successfully approached some private funding sources and
now appeal to the City of Miami which over the years has invested
its most treasured possessions, (Miami's Youth) in our creative
keeping..
The returns for all of us have been the ever.;Increasing numberriof
children who have learned to recognize that the arts offer a source
for continued enrichment of lives... A better quality of life!
So that we may continue-
1-To be one of the forerunners in motivating young people towards
increased ..awareness of life; broadened perspectives; newly realized
and respected personal aesthetics; personal, social, and emotional
development -
.,.confidence; and greater communicative skills.
2.To.successfully maintain a complexion which creatively blends the
multi-ethnic/economic youth who represent a cross section of Miami's
community at large. (Our racial composition is 4004 Caucasian,
3096 Black, 20% Latin, and 10' Other.and over 301•; of our students
.are scholarshiped ). -
3.To be one of the pace -setters for quality theatre in Miami for
children, in class for ages 5 thru 17 years or.in performance
in plays touring throughout the state, seminars, or specials
for radio and television.
WE ;1:,ED YOUR HELP!
We trust our one time request will be taken into consideration
and a mean3 will be found to keep our non- urofit organization
viable.
Yours for youth ' Al

Now in its Tenth Year!
The Coconut Grove Children's Theatre is a non-profit
educational and performing institution. in the creative
arts for chidren ranging in ages 5-17 years. We are one
of the forerunners in motivating young people towards
Increased awareness, broadened perspectives, per-
sonal, emotional and social development, confidence
and greater communicative skills. Our Theatre has
successfully maintained a complexion which creatively
blends the mufti -ethnic youth who represent a cross
section of our community at large towards a common
goal ... The Human Arts Form ... Theatre. With
locations south at 3043 Grand Avenue and north as an
affiliated operation of Model Cities Center for the
Cultural Arts at 6200 N.W. 22nd Avenue, The Children's
Theatre continues its philosophy of extended cultural
exposure. With a staff of eight highly skilled profession-
als we operate classes Monday through Saturday with
performances on Sunday. A comprhhensive curriculum
has been developed to include Speech and Didion,
Theatre History, Theatre Technique, Mime, Technical
Theatre, Music, and Voice and Dance with special semi-
nars in Television Acting and Playwriting. We have at
present over 200 students; our racial composition is
40% Caucasian, 30% Black, 20% Latin and 10% other.
By children for children
Although the Coconut Grove Children's Theatre has
accomplished much, it is difficult to keep an operation
such as ours viable without community support. We
need matching funds for the public and private grants
we are seeking, along with any In -Kind donations that
might help expand and maintain what the children have
built. Many of the children we have at present are from
families with financial difficulties. We need sponsorship
for these children and more. Be it with in -kind donations
or monetary support in any way -we need to help the
children help themselves to keep the Children's
Theatre
Our Outreach Program has made it possible for our
theatre to have entertained more than 20,000 people a
year, sharing our creative and artistic expressions of
plays touring through the state concerts, theatre semi-
nars, and specials for television and radio performances
by our mime troop M.Y.M.E. (Mime for Youth Mime for
Education) and of course Performathon! Being cog-
nizant that the availability of the arts and cultural
activites is a very important factor in making a commu-
nity an attractive place to live, and recognizing the arts
offers a source for continued enrichment of lives ... a
better quality of life we continue to strive to keep our
operation viable for our future. Positive awareness must
begin with our children. People experienring our theatre
enjoy many hours of education, teeiing and sharing,
many for the first time in thew trues.

Mr. Jose Mendez:
The following is the minimum police personnel staffing

used to determine costs; however, exact costs cannot be
determined until after personnel are assigned.

To properly police this event requires the following
assignments. The total cost is based on 12 hours:
