HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-82-0740C M82-665 7/22/82 RESOLUTION NO.82-740 A RESOLUTION EXPRESSING THE FOLLOWING INTENT OF THE CITY COMMISSION: (a) TO HAVE THE MAIN LIBRARY BUILDING IN BAYFRONT PARK MOVED, IN ONE PIECE IF POSSIBLE, TO ANOTHER SITE YET TO BE DETERMINED; (b) TO ALLOCATE A SUM NOT TO EXCEED $2,000,000 FROM AN ESTIMATED TOTAL OF $20,000,00 DESIGNATED FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF SAID PARK IN ORDER TO COVER THE COST OF REMOVAL AND REFUR- BISHING OF SAID BUILDING; (c) THAT A SITE SELECTION COMMITTEE BE ESTABLISHED TO MAKE RECOMMENDATIONS WITH RESPECT TO THE RE -LOCATION AND UTILIZATION OF SAID BUILDING; (d) TO GIVE FIRST PREFERENCE TO THE CULMER- OVERTOWN AREA AS AN APPROPRIATE SITE, AND IF REMOVAL TO SAID SITE IS NOT POSSIBLE THEN SERIOUS CONSIDERATION BE GIVEN TO THE USE OF THE BUILDING FOR A MARITIME MUSEUM OR FOR THE INSURANCE EXCHANGE OF THE AMERICAS, OR SUCH OTHER USES BASED ON HUMANE CONSIDERATIONS AT ANOTHER SITE, AND IF RENTED BY THE CITY FOR COMMERCIAL USE FOR A 10 YEAR PERIOD THAT THE RENTAL BE SET AT $3 PER SQUARE FOOT NET NET ($200,000 PER YEAR); FURTHER EXPRESSING THE INTENT OF THE CITY COMMISSION THAT IF NO ACCEPTABLE RELOCATION SITE AND TENANT IS FOUND FOR SAID BUILDING WITHIN 18 MONTHS FROM THE DATE OF THIS RESO- LUTION, IT IS TO BE DEMOLISHED. BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. It is the intent of the City Commission: (a) - to have the Main Library Building in Bayfront Park moved, in one piece if possible, to another site yet to be determined; (b) to allocate a sum not to exceed $2,000,000 from an estimated total of $20,000,000 designated for the construction of said park in order to cover the cost of removal and refurbishing of said building; (c) that a Site Selection Committee be established to make recommendations with respect to the re -location and utilization of said building; (d) to give first preference to the Culmer-Overtown Area as an appropriate site, and if removal to said site is not possible then serious consideration be given to the use of the building for a Maritime Museum or for the Insurance Exchange of the Americas, or such other uses based on humane considerations at another site, and if rented by the City for commercial use for a 10 year period that the rental be set at $3 per square foot net net ($200,000 per year). Section 2. It is the further intent of the City Commission that if no acceptable relocation site and tenant is found for said building within 18 months from the date of this Reso- lution, it is to be demolished.
