Cit:y of R'iami, State of Florida Dept. Labor & Employment Security Case No.: 076-28-6950 PF-F-L RLFdCF'. Request for City Comm. Action FN(,Lo5U0P_ (1) Resolution It is recommended that the attached resolu- tion be passed by the City Commission, authorizing the director of Finance to pay to William Schork and his attorney, Peter Schwedock, the amounts of $30,000 and $7,500, respectively, for full and complete settle- ment of Mr. Schork's workers' compensation claim against the city; such sums to be paid from the city's self-insurance fund. The above -captioned claim arose from a workers' compen- sation accident, which occurred on June 3, 1974, when Mr. Schork was moving tailstock from a lathe and felt a pain in the left hip area. Claimant then reinjured himself in May of 1977. As a result of his injuries stemming from the original accident, Mr. William Schork has a permanent partial disability in his back and right leg. It is the opinion of Mr. Schork's _ physicians that his condition will require continued medical treat- ment and possible future surgery. This claimant has been rendered unable to be gainfully employed as he cannot sit or stand for any extended periods of time. It has been determined that the matter can be settled for $30,000 plus statutory attorney's fees and costs of $7,500, which includes costs incurred. The claim has been investigated by the Risk Management Division and the City Attorney's Office. Both offices recommend entry of a settlement. CEG/JH/cs 82-840
