HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-82-0782RESOLUTION NO. 8 2• 7 8 2 A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING PURCHASING OF 6 FIRE APPARATUS (1250 GPM PUMPERS) UNDER A METROPOLITAN DADE COUNTY CONTRACT WITH PIERCE MANUFACTURING COM- PANY FOR THE DEPARTMENT OF FIRE, RESCUE. AND INSPEC- TION SERVICES AT A TOTAL COST OF $818,706; WAIVING THE REQUIREMENT FOR FORMAL SEALED BIDS; ALLOCATING FUNDS THEREFOR FROM THE 1981 FIRE FIGHTING, FIRE PREVENTION AND RESCUE FACILITIES BOND FUND; AUTHOR- IZING THE CITY MANAGER AND THE PURCHASING AGENT TO ISSUE THE PURCHASE ORDERS FOR THIS EQUIPMENT. WHEREAS, the Department of Fire, Rescue and Inspection Services has requested the purchase of 6 Fire Apparatus (1250 GPM Pumpers); and WHEREAS, there is a Metropolitan Dade County Contract with Pierce Manufacturing Company to furnish the apparatus based on specifications developed by the City of Miami and Metropolitan Dade County fire departments; and WHEREAS, funds for this purchase are available in the 1981 Fire Fighting, Fire Prevention, and Rescue Facilities Bond Fund; and WHEREAS, this equipment will be used for the purpose of replacement of worn equipment; and WHEREAS, the City Manager and the Department of Fire, Rescue and Inspection Services recommend that the purchase from Pierce Manufacturing Company is the most advantageous — to the City; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The requirement for formal sealed bids for furnishing 6 Fire Apparatus (1250 GPM Pumpers) for the Depart- ment of Fire, Rescue and Inspection Services is hereby waived, and the purchase under the Metropolitan Dade County Contract from Pierce Manufacturing Company, at a total cost of $818,706, is hereby approved with funds therefor hereby allocated from the 1981 Fire Fighting, Fire Prevention, and Rescue Facilities Bond Fund. Mullins ENCLOSURES Resolution Purchasing Agent It is recommended that a resolution be passed authorizing the purchase of six Fire Appparatus (_1250 qpm Pumpers) under a Metropolitan Dade County Contract with Pierce Manufacturina Company at a total cost of 818 706.00. The Department of Fire has requested the purchase of six Fire Appa- ratus (1250 gpm pumpers). There is presently a Metropolitan Dade County Contract with Pierce Manufacturing Company to furnish these units of Fire Apparatus based on specifications which were developed jointly by Metro Dade County and City of Miami Fire Department personnel. The contract is based on the purchase from Pierce Manufacturing Company of 16 units (10 for Dade County and 6 for the City of Miami), with specified "Mandatory" equipment, at a unit price of $161,428.00 each. Equipment changes to conform to City of Miami requirements result in a net reduction in cost per unit of $14,977.00, for a total savings for the 6 units is $89,862.00. These new units will replace existing pumpers as follows: Hose No. 8 Engine No. 8 Hose No. 2 Engine No. 2 Engine No. 7 Engine No. 3 Delivery of the equipment will be at the rate of 2 units per month beginning in February, 1983. Funds are available in the 1981 Firefighting, Fire Prevention, and Rescue Facilities Bond Fund. The Department of Fire concures with this recommendation. ALM:an 82-'782
