NORTHERN DRAINAGE PROJECT E-52 IN AN AMOUNT NOT
TO EXCEED $40 , 000. SAID FUNDS FOI: THE INCREASE TO
CO: iE FR0:1 STOP.:,! SEWER G.O. BOND FUNDS.
Early in the project we authorized the contractor to do emergency
extra ,cork nt N. 1-1. 65 Avenue and 2 Street to relieve possible
flooding conditions in the area bounded by Fla-ler Street, S. W.
S Street, 60 and 67 Avenues. The additional work consisted of
1,,odificcltions to an outf ill line servin the area and cost
$61, 650.
The $61.650 co:-.t o the '.cori: more than dcr,let.ed the cash allowance
on the project, and caused us to delay con::truction of six struc-
ture- incl.,.ic:ed i1h the project to insure ti-int: t-:cre would not be an

forCetl to consider french drains only, because the contractor, by
the ti,rle %,7e authorized the extra %,7orl;, had already cast all of his
covered ditch slabs, and had we eliminated a covered ditch we would
nave been obli.l;at-ed to purchase the slabs from him. The end result
is th;1L of the £our structures we are unable to do within the con-
tract- aimount, three of then are french drains at locations where
drainage or additional drainas;e is critically needed.

Accordingly, we have prepared a resolution authorizing the
necessary increase, and will request passage of it at the
October 14 Commission Meeting. Funds for the increase are
available from Storrs Sewer G.O. Bond funds.
