A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO
ACCEPT A GRANT AWARD IN THE AMOUNT OF 581,983.
FROM THE UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION,
OFFICE OF SPECIAL EDUCATION AND REHABILITATION
SERVICES AND FURTHER AUTHORIZING, THE CITY MAN-
AGER TO EXECUTE THE NECESSARY CONTRACT(S) AND/
OR AGREEMENT(S) TO IMPLEMENT THE PROGRAM.
WHEREAS, the City Cono►iission adopted Ordinance No. on October 14, 1982,
appropriating the sum 5116,983.00 of which S81,983.00 shall be provided by the
United States Department of Education and 535,000.00 shall be provided from the
FY '83 Special Programs and Accounts, Matching Funds for Federal Grants; and
WHEREAS, the United States Department of Education, Office of Special Educa-
tion and Rehabilitation Services has offered the City of Miami a grant of 581,983.
to provide recreation programs for the period of October 1, 1982 through September
30, 1983; and
WHEREAS, this program will provide leisure education/recreation for disabled
citizens:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA:
Section 1. The City !Manager is hereby authorized to accept a grant award in
the amount of 581,9�23.00 from the United States Department of Education, Office of
Special Education and Rehabilitation Services for a Continuum of Adapted Recreation
Education programs.
Section 2. The City Manager is hereby authorized to execute the necessary
contract(s) and/or agreement(s) to implement this program.

IT IS RECOMMENDED THAT THE CITY MANAGER BE
AUTHORIZED TO ACCEPT A GRANT AWARD IN THE
AMOUNT OF $81,983.00 FROM THE UNITED STATES
DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION, OFFICE OF SPECIAL
EDUCATION AND REHABILITATION SERVICES AND
FURTHER AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER EXE-
CUTE THE NECESSARY CONTRACT(S) AND/OR AGREE-
MENT(S) TO IMPLEt•1ENT THIS PROGRAM.
Project CARE (Continuum of Adapted Recreation Education) is a program
funded by the United Stated Department of Education, Office of Special
Education and Rehabilitation Services. The purpose of Project CARE is
to provide a leisure education/recreation program for disabled citizens
residing in the Miami area. The program will be based on an assessment
and task analysis continuum flow pattern which allows each participant
to enter the program based on their specific needs.
The matching funds in the amount of thirty-five thousand dollars
($35,000.00) are available in the Special Programs and Accounts, Match-
ing Fund for Grants and can be appropriated together with eighty-one
thousand, nine hundred eighty-three dollars ($81,983.00) to create a
new trust and agency fund entitled "Continuum of Adapted Recreation
Education".
It is the recommendation of this Department that the attached resolution
be adopted.
