This equipment is available on State of Florida Contract No. 725-52-82-1 with Motorola, Inc. The Florida State Purchasing Division of the Department of General Ser- vices bids and awards contracts on a yearly basis for the supply of equipment, materials, and services to the various State agencies throughout the state. Bidding large quantities usually results in lower prices. Purchases may be made from State Contracts by any county, municipality, or other local public agency, and such purchases are exempt from the competitive bid requirements otherwise applying to their purchase as provided in Florida Statutes, Section 287.042(2). State Contract General Conditions contains the following: 4.b. Political Subdivisions: Under Florida Law use of State Contracts shall be available to political subdivisions (county, county board of public instruction, municipal, or other local public agency or authority), which may desire to purchase under the terms and conditions of the contract. Such purchases shall be exempt from the competitive bid requirements otherwise applying to their purchases. It is usually more economical for the City to purchase from State Contracts, which offer lower prices based on large quantities. Additionally, the City saves the cost of advertising and mailing by not having to bid. 82"1Q3: Mr. Howard V, Gary City Manager Pace 2 of 2 octbber 18; 1992 radio units will be furnished to the Department of Fire, Rescue, The r lace worn equipemnt. and Inspection Services to repoperating Budget.
