ENCLOSURES
"It is requested that the City of
Miami relinquish to Metropolitan
Dade County the regulation of all
transportation of passengers for
compensation, as presently provided
for in Chapter #56 of the Code of
The City of Miami, Florida, entitled:
'Taxicabs and other vehicles for
hire', per the attached resolution".
A recent court decision placed control of taxi cabs and for hire
vehicles within the authority of Dade County. Because of the specific
language of the County ordinance, it did not include Jitneys. The
regulation of Jitneys, which are small in number, does not warrant the
City of Miami Police Department maintaining a Detail for this purpose.
It is, therefore, recommended that the City of Miami pass a resolution
requesting that Metropolitan Dade County take responsibility for all
vehicles for hire including Jitneys.
