Downtown Neighbors Alliance
June 12 2023
Dear City of Miami Commissioners,
•1
City Clerk
James Torres, President
Tel (602) 432-2593
MiamiDNAPresident@gmail.com
On behalf of the Miami Downtown Neighbors Alliance, we'd like to express our support for the proposed
redevelopment of the Hyatt Regency and James L. Knight site in Downtown Miami.
The mixed -use development project, known as Miami Riverbridge, proposed by Hyatt and Gencom, will
further revitalize Downtown Miami through its many economic and community benefits, all at no cost
to taxpayers. Plans of the privately funded project include a new outdoor public green space alongside a
pedestrian Riverwalk along the Miami River, market -rate apartments catering to local and new residents,
the reconfiguration of current traffic patterns to reduce congestion and improve the pedestrian
experience, as well as a $25 million contribution for affordable housing in the City of Miami. Not only
will this redevelopment improve Miami's urban core, but it will create as much as $1.5 billion in
additional revenue in city taxes, fees and ground rent to help fund citywide priorities over the lease term.
Last year, Miami voters expressed overwhelming support — at 64 percent - in favor of the project —
illustrating the community's desire to continue investing in Miami's evolution as it takes stage as one of
the most dynamic cities in the world. This project ensures that the city's urban core can keep pace with
inbound travel, business and new residents with the addition of Hyatt hotel rooms, Class A meeting space
for major conferences and events, market -rate apartments to meet rising demand for housing, thousands
of jobs for local workers, and a public riverwalk and outdoor community green space to further capitalize
on the city's attractive waterfront.
The Downtown Neighbors Alliance firmly believes that this project will have far-reaching benefits for
the entire Downtown Miami community and beyond and will further elevate Miami's brand as a world -
class city to live, work and play. We urge you to vote in favor of the development plan and lease terms
for Miami Riverbridge to continue the renewal of Downtown Miami.
