WHEREAS, pursuant to public notice, sealed bids were received October 12, 1982 for the furnishing of Physical Fitness Equipment to the Department of Fire, Rescue and Inspection Services; and WHEREAS, invitations were mailed to 14 potential suppliers and 8 bids were received; and WHEREAS, funds for this purchase are available in the 1981 Firefighting, Fire Prevention and Rescue Facilities Bond Funds; and WHEREAS, this equipment will be used by the Department of Fire, Rescue and Inspection Services for the purpose of providing physical training and fitness maintenance equipment to the Firefighting Division; and WHEI:EAS, the City Manager and the Department of Fire, Rescue and Inspection Services recommend that the bids received from CITY COMMISSION MEETING OF 0 E C 9 198Z 8` _1 V 90 WOWMN No...„........,..,,,,,,� t-. I Southern Athletics and Fitness Equipment, Inc., Institutional Sales Corporation, and Universal Gym be accepted as the most advantageous bids to the City; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COI.114ISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The October 12, 1982 bids of Southern Athletics and Fitness Equipment, Inc. for furnishing 21 Cycle Ergometers at a cost of $29,295.00; Institutional Sales Corporation for furnishing 21 Heartrate Meters at a cost of $2,614.50; and Universal Gym for furnishing 6 Ten Station Weight Lifting Machines at a cost of $32,400.00; to the Department of Fire, Rescue and Inspection Services at a total cost of $64,309.50 are hereby accepted with funds therefor hereby allocated from the 1981 Firefighting, Fire Prevention and Rescue Facilities Bond Funds. Section 2. That the City Manager is hereby authorized to instruct the Purchasing Agent to issue Purchase Orders for this equipment. FLORIDA INTER -OFFICE MEMORANDUM M DATE November ,18, 1982 FILL. �.:E,ECT Recommendation for Resolution and Award of Bid: No. 81-82-137 Physical Fitness Equipment REFERENCES ENCLOSURES Award of Bid, Resolution, and Tabulation It is recommended that an award be made and a resolution be passed accepting the most advantageous bids as received from Southern Athletics and Fitness Equipment, Inc. or 31 Cycle Er ometers at a cost of TT9-,295.00, from Institutional Sales Corporation for 2 Heartrate Meters at a cost of 2 614.50, and from Universal Gym for 6 Weight Lifting Machines at a cost of $32, 00.00, at a total cost of $64,309.50. Pursuant to public notice, sealed bids were received October 12, 1982 for furnishing Physical Fitness Equipment to the Department of Fire, Rescue and Inspection Services. Invitations were mailed to 14 potential suppliers and 8 bids were received as per the attached tabulation. One (1) Late Bid was also received. This equipment is needed to complete the physical fitness facilities at 12 Fire Stations and to begin to provide equipment for the new Fire Rescue Training Center. The Firefighting Division employees will use this equipment as part of their physical training regimen and fitness maintenance. Funds for this purchase are available in the 1981 Fire Fighting, Fire Prevention and Rescue Facilities Bond Funds. The Department of Fire, Rescue and Inspection Services concurs with this recommendation. �2-1U3U ff t AWARD OF BID Bid No. 81-82-137 ITEM: Physical Fitness Equipment DEPARTiIENT: Fire, Rescue and Inspection Services TYPE OF PURCHASE: Single Purchase REASON: To provide equipment for physical training and fitness maintenance to the Firefighting Division Employees. POTENTIAL BIDDERS: 14 BIDS RECEIVED: 8 TABULATION: Attached FUNDS: 1981 Firefighting, Fire Prevention and Rescue Facilities Bond Funds. BID EVALUATION: The low bids for item 1 Cycle Ergometers from Total Gym, Inc. and Institutional Sales Corp. were not acceptable, as they did not meet the specifications requiring isokinetic resistance, hydraulic type resistance mechanism and set RPM. The low bid for item 2 Heartrate Meters of Institutional Sales Corp, was acceptable for use in the Fire Stations. For item 3, Ten - Station Weight Lifting Machines, two low bids were determined unacceptable as not meeting specifications: 1) Total Gym, Inc. equipment does not provide 10 stations or weight stacks, and has inadequate resistance for developing necessary strength levels; 2) Moffett Body Building Equipment weight lifting machine does not offer variable resistance, nor does it provide the specified weight range on three of weight stations. Hydro equipment does not provide variable resistance, does not use weights, does not provide weighted resistance, does not provide required stations. Cost of equipment too great. (2) Chest press weight only 300# - we requested 390#. (3) Shoulder press weight only 262# - we requested 390#. (4) Unit does not offer variable resistance. Institutional Sales Corp. Weight Lifting Machine does not meet specifications: (1) Does not provide slant board. Roman chair is not as effective. (2) Standing leg flex does not provide necessary support. (3) Weights are not in pounds specified per station.
