RESOLUTION NO. 83-29
A RESOLUTION ACCEPTING THE BID OF MET
CONSTRUCTION, INC. IN THE PROPOSED
AMOUNT OF $102,474.00 BASE BID PLUS
ADDITIVE ITEM A OF THE PROPOSAL, FOR
CITY OF MIAMI/UNIVERSITY OF MIAMI JAMES
L. KNIGHT INTERNATIONAL CENTER - ENTRANCE
CANOPY; WITH MONIES THEREFOR ALLOCATED
FROM THE ACCOUNT ENTITLED "CITY OF
MIAMI/UNIVERSITY OF MIAMI JAMES L.
KNIGHT INTERNATIONAL CENTER AND PARKING
GARAGE" IN THE AMOUNT OF $102,474.00
TO COVER THE CONTRACT COST; ALLOCATING
FROM SAID FUND THE AMOUNT OF $2,051.00
TO COVER THE COST OF PROJECT EXPENSE;
ALLOCATING FROM SAID FUND THE AMOUNT
OF $2,025.00 TO COVER THE COST OF SUCH
ITEMS AS ADVERTISING, TESTING LABORATORIES,
AND POSTAGE; AND AUTHORIZING THE CITY
MANAGER TO EXECUTE A CONTRACT WITH
SAID FIRM.
WHEREAS, sealed bids were received January 11,
1983 for CITY OF MIAMI/UNIVERSITY OF MIAMI JAMES L. KNIGHT
INTERNATIONAL. CENTER - ENTRANCE CANOPY; and
WHEREAS, the City Manager reports that the bid
of ;MET Construction, Inc., for the base bid plus additive
item A of the proposal, is the lowest responsible bid,
and recommends that a contract be awarded to said firm;
and
WHEREAS, the Capital Improvements Appropriation
Ordinance No. 9534, as amended, was adopted on December 9,
1982, and monies are available for the proposed amount
of the contract, project expense, and incidentals from
the account entitled "City of Miami James L. Knight International
Center and Parking Garage, as set forth under Section X.B.1
of said ordinance;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION
OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA:
Section 1. The January 11, 1983 bid of MET
Construction, Inc., in the proposed amount of $102,474.00,
for the project entitled CITY OF MIAMI/UNIVERSITY OF MIAMI
JAMES L. KNIGHT INTERNATIONAL CENTER - ENTRANCE CANOPY,
CITY COMMISSION

for the base bid of the proposal, plus additive Item A
on lump sum prices, is hereby accepted at the price stated
therein.
Section 2. The amount of $102,474.00 is hereby
allocated from the account entitled "City of Miami/University
of Miami James L. Knight International Center and Parking
Garage" to cover the cost of said contract.
Section 3. The additional amount of $2,051.00
is hereby allocated from the aforesaid fund to cover the
cost of project expense.
Section 4. The additional amount of $2,025.00
is hereby allocated from the aforesaid fund to cover the
cost of such incidental items as advertising, testing laboratories,
and postage.
Section 5. The City Manager is hereby authorized
to enter into a contract on behalf of The City of Miami
with MET Construction, Inc. for CITY OF MIAMI/UNIVERSITY
OF MIAMI JAMES L. KNIGHT INTERNATIONAL CENTER - ENTRANCE
CANOPY, base bid plus additive item A of the proposal.

The Department of Public Works, and the
Conference Center Department recommends
adoption of the resolution accepting
the bid received January 11, 1983 of
MET Construction, Inc. in the amount
of $102,474.00 and authorizing the
City Manager to enter into a contract
on behalf of the City of Miami for
CITY OF MIAMI/UNIVERSITY OF MIAMI JAMES
L. KNIGHT INTERNATIONAL CENTER - ENTRANCE
CANOPY.
Bids were received January 11, 1983 for furnishing and supplying
the entrance canopy and awning for the Miami Convention Center.
As reflected in the tabulation of bids, the $102,474.00 bid of
MET Construction Inc. is the lowest responsible bid for the Base.
bid plus Additive Item A of the proposal.
Funds have been allocated under the "City of Miami/University
of Miami James L. Knight International Center & Parking Garage"
account for the estimated amount of the contract, for project
expense, for such iterts as advertising, testing laboratories,
and postage.
Nineteen contractors picked up plans and specifications; five
contractors submitted bids. The engineer's estimate was $135,000
for the Base Bid, plus Additive Items "A" & "B".

Pan American Drive, Dinner Key, Miami, Florida 33133, at which
time and place they will be publicly opened and read.
This project consists of furnishing and installing the structural
steel framing and canopy assembly and lighting for the entrance
canopy at the City of Miami'University of Miami James L. Knight
International Center, located at 400 S.E. Second Avenue, Miami,
Florida.
Bids may be submitted on one or more of the above items. All
bids shall be submitted in accordance with the Instruction to
Bidders and Specifications. The first set of plans and
specifications may be obtained free from the office of the
Director, Department of Public Works, 275 N.W. 2 Street (4th floor)
Miami, Florida, after December 28, 1982,There will be a nominal
charge for each additional set. Plans and specifications are
to be returned in good condition and unmarked within 10 days
after bids have been received.
Those minority or target area contractor/small businesses
interested in submitting bids are advised to contact Contractor
Training and Development, Inc., 5800 N.W. 7 Avenue, Suite 212,
telephone (305) 754-4903, if they require assistance in preparing
their bid packages.
Proposal includes the time of performance, and specifications
contain provisions for liquidated damages for failure to complete
the work on time.
Bidders are alerted to the provisions of Ordinance No. 9530, which
provides for allocation of contracts to minority vendors.
The City Commission reserves the right to waive any informality
in any bid, and the City Manager may reject any or all bids and
readvertise.

technical specifications during the bidding period, the bidder

Any questions pertaining to construction scheduling and coordination,
call the Construction Manager at (305) 358-2277 (attn. Allen
