TO Howard V. Gary

INTER -OFFICE MEMORANDUM

FROM t ! H.ward, rector
Department of Recreation
DATE January 26, 1983 FILE
SUBJECT. Request for Orange Bowl
Semi -Pro Football
REFERENCES
ENCLOSURES:
The Miami Semi -Pro Football League has played ten (10) games
at their home field at Gibson Park and three (3) at the
Baseball Stadium. It is a well organized league and is a
fine example of community spirit and participation. The
majority of players are from the Overtown area. The league
is self-supporting and works closely with the Recreation
Department and local sponsors. Recently funds were raised
through the games played at the Miami Stadium.
As part of the Partners for Youth week, Feb. 13-19, the coor-
dinator for PFY requested the Miami League to be part of the
scheduled activities and play their all-star game in the Orange
Bowl, Saturday, February 19, 1983. The team is enthusiastically
cooperating with Partners for Youth in attempting to stimulate
participation throughout the community.
We have been coordinating programs with Partners and their
assistance has made it possible to supplement other recreation
programs during the summer months. The football game is essen-
tially another City & Partners community program.
It would be a unique opportunity for the Miami League to achieve
well deserved recognition. I would recommend that Partners pay
all direct costs from audited gate receipts and the City waive
the $1,500.00 users' fee.
