A RESOLUTION EXPRESSING THE CITY COMMISSION'S
SUPPORT OF THE BLACK PUBLIC ADMINISTRATORS'
CONFERENCE, SPONSORED BY PUBLIC TECHNOLOGY,
INC. (PTI), TO BE HELD IN SOUTH FLORIDA ON
APRIL 13-15, 1983 AND CO -HOSTED BY THE CITY
OF MIAMI AND BROWARD COUNTY, BY AUTHORIZING
THE CITY MANAGER TO EXPEND FUNDS IN AN
AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $10,000 IN SUPPORT OF
THE CITY OF MIAMI'S PARTICIPATION AS A
CO -HOST OF SAID CONFERENCE, AND FURTHER
ALLOCATING FUNDS THEREFOR FROM SPECIAL
PROGRAMS AND ACCOUNTS, CONTINGENT FUND.
WHEREAS, Public Technology, Inc. (PTI), a nonprofit national
organization that works with the City and County officials and
responds to their need for technology and management systems, is
sponsoring and organizing a Black Public Administrators'
Conference to explore the unique pressures and stresses
experienced by Black City and County administrators scheduled to
be held in South Florida on April 13-15, 1983; and
WHEREAS, the National Conference of Black Mayors, National
Black Caucus of State Legislators, National Black Media
Coalition, Congressional Black Caucus, Howard University School
of Business and Public Administration, Conference of Minority
Public Administrators, International City Management Association,
National League of Cities and American Society for Public
Administration have all expressed their support for this
Conference through co-sponsorship; and
WHEREAS, PTI has requested that the City of Miami and
Broward County serve as co -hosts for the Conference;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI, FLORIDA:
Section 1. The City Commission hereby expresses its support
of the Black Public Administrators' Conference, sponsored by
Public Technology, Inc. (PTI), to be held in South Florida on
April 13-15, 1983 and to be co -hosted by the City of Miami and
Broward County by authorizing the expenditure by the a

Meeting of February 10, 1983
It is recommended that the attached Resolution
authorizing the City Manager to expend funds, in
an amount not exceeding $10,000, in support of the
Black Public Administrators' Conference sponsored
by Public Technology, Incorporated (PTI) to be
held in South Florida from April 13-15, 1983 and
to be co -hosted by the City of Miami, Florida and
Broward County, Florida be adopted by the City
Commission at its meeting of February 10, 1983.
Funding is available from FY'83 Special Programs
and Accounts Contingency Fund to cover this
commitment.
Public Technology, Inc. (PTI), a non-profit organization that works with City
and County officials and responds to their need for technology and management
systems, is sponsoring and organizing a Black Public Administrators' Conference
to explore the unique pressures and stresses experienced by black City and
County administrators scheduled to be held in South Florida on April 13-15,
1983.
In addition to PTI's sponsorship, the National Conference of Black Mayors,
National Black Caucus of State Legislators, National Black Media Coalition,
Congressional Black Caucus, Howard University School of Business and Public
Administration, Conference of Minority Public Administrators, International
City Management Association, National League of Cities, and American
Society for Public Administration have all expressed their support for this
conference through co-sponsorship.
PTI has requested that the City of Miami, Florida and Broward County, Florida
serve as co -hosts for the conference in light of the presence in these two
jurisdictions of black chief administrators and the wide-ranging significance of
such a national gathering of black public administrators.
