(For Commission Meeting
ENCLOSURES of March 18, 1983)
It is recommended that a resolution be
adopted authorizing an increase in contract
amount not to exceed $50,000 in the contract
between the City of Miami, Florida and First
Florida Building Corporation for the cons-
truction of Fire Rescue Training Center,
said funds for the increase in contract to
be provided entirely by appropriations to
the Fire Training Facility and Closed Circuit
Television project provided by Ordinance No.
9469, passed July 22, 1982, per the attached
resolution.
There exists a contract dated April 29, 1981, between the City
of Miami, Florida and First Florida Building Corporation for
the construction of the Fire Rescue Training Center. The
Training Center is being constructed by making extensive modifi-
cations to the old Coconut Grove Incinerator Building. The
contract was originally based upon plans which covered the bare
necessities for converting the building for fire college use.
In July, 1982 it was necessary to increase the contract amount
by $113,100 to cover the cost of additional interior modifica-
tions that allowed for the expansion of the rescue training
center and physical fitness programs and the refinement of the
office spaces being provided by the work.
We have now found that the interior finishing, partitioning,
and mechanical and electrical retrofittings have been greater
than anticipated, especially in making the facility watertight
for office and classroom use. We have determined that an
additional $50,000 is needed to cover the additional cost of
the work, and the Directors of both the Department of Public
Works and Fire Rescue and Inspections Services recommend and

increasel n the contract to cover the additional cost. i
Funds to cover the increase are available from money appropriated
to the Fire Training Facility and Closed Circuit Television project
by Ordinance No. 9469, dated July 22, 1982.
