A RESOLUTION EXPRESSING THE INTENT OF THE CITY COMMISSION TO AMEND SECTION NO. 14-17 OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA, AS AMENDED, TO EXPAND THE BOUNDARIES OF THE DOWNTOWN DEVELOPMENT DISTRICT TO INCLUDE THE AREA COMMONLY REFERRED TO AS THE BRICKELL AREA, BOUNDED GENERALLY BY THE MIAMI RIVER, BISCAYNE BAY, SOUTHEAST 15TH ROAD AND THE METRORAIL GUIDEWAY INCLUDING CLAUGHTON ISLAND, ALSO KNOWN AS BURLINGAME ISLAND; FURTHER PROVIDING FOR A PUBLIC HEARING ON MARCH 24, 1983 TO RECEIVE ADVICE AND INFORMATION FROM THE PUBLIC ON SAID SUBJECT AND TO INFORM THE PUBLIC THAT A PROPOSED ORDINANCE SO EXPANDING SUCH DISTRICT WILL BE CONSIDERED ON FIRST READING ON THAT DATE; FURTHER PROVIDING FOR A PUBLIC HEARING ON APRIL 28, 1983 TO RECEIVE ADVICE AND INFORMATION ON THE SUBJECT AND TO INFORM THE PUBLIC THAT SAID ORDINANCE WILL BE CONSIDERED ON SECOND READING ON APRIL 28, 1983. WHEREAS, Ordinance No. 7370, as amended, created the Downtown Development Authority of the City of Miami and set the boundaries thereof upon which is levied an additional ad valorem tax on all real and personal property not exceeding 1/2 mill on the dollar valuation of such property for the purpose of financing the said Authority; and WHEREAS, the area of the City of Miami, commonly referred to as the Brickell Area, bounded generally by the Miami River, Southeast 15th Road, Biscayne Bay and the Metrorail Guideway including Claughton Island, also known as Burlingame Island, is physically and functionally related to the area presently included within the boundaries of the Downtown Development Authority; and WHEREAS, transportation improvements underway and planned within the downtown and Brickell Areas will further coalesce the developmental and functional aspects of both sectors of the Central Business District; and CITY COMMISSION MEETING Or MAR 18 1983 RLSOLUI ION Nu REMARKS. WHEREAS, to insure comprehensive land use, transportation, amenities and regulatory planning and implementation, all geographic areas of the Central Business District should be treated together; and WHEREAS, the City Commission invites advice and information from the public on issues of this nature; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. It is the intent of the City Commission to amend Section 14-17 of the Code of the City of Miami, Florida, as amended, to expand the boundaries of the Downtown Development District to include the area of the City of Miami, commonly referred to as the Brickell Area, bounded generally by the Miami River, Biscayne Bay, Southeast 15th Road and the Metrorail Guideway including Claughton Island, also known as Burlingame Island. Section 2. A public hearing is hereby called for on March 24, 1983 at 2:30 P.M. in the City Commission Chambers to receive advice and information from the public on said subject and to inform the public that a proposed ordinance so expanding such district will be considered by the City Commission on first reading on that date. Section 3. A second public hearing is also hereby called for on April 28, 1983 at 5:00 P.M. in the City Commission Chambers to receive advice and information from the public and to inform the public that said ordinance will be considered on second reading on April 28, 1983.
