RESOLUTION NO.
A RESOLUTION EXPRESSING THE DEEPEST
SYMPATHY AND SINCEREST CONDOLENCES OF THE
CITY COMMISSION ON BEHALF OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI AND ITS CITIZENS TO THE FAMILY AND
FRIENDS OF DON PETIT UPON HIS DEATH.
WHEREAS, Don Petit, after a distinguished career as a
journalist, entered public service by becoming an
Assistant to the Dade County Manager in 1957; an
Administrative Assistant in Senator Claude Pepper's office in
Washington, D.C. in 1962; Deputy Regional Director of the
Office of Economic Opportunity in the southern states,
appointed by President Lyndon B. Johnson in 1964; and manager
of U.S. Rep. Claude Pepper's Miami office for the past nine
years; and
WHEREAS, after leaving active government service, Don
Petit had formed a highly successful consulting firm and
assisted many candidates for public office; and
WHEREAS, his tragic death has saddened everyone who knew
and loved him;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA:
Section 1. The City Commission hereby conveys to the
family and friends of Don Petit its deepest sympathy and
sincerest condolences, on behalf of the citizens of the City
of Miami, upon his death.
Section 2. This Resolution is offered by the City
Commission as a token of its respect and esteem.
PASSED AND ADOPTED this 18 day of MARCH ,1983.
