ENCLOSURES
As previously reported to you the "Prescripts,-n Athletic
Turf" playing surface at the Orange Bowl Stn'lum is in
need of major repairs.
This was apparent during the last playoff bctween
the Dolphins and the Jets when after three of rain
the field was not percolating or draining prc-,._rly.
We have been advised that there are two ways t: restore
the PAT drainage capabilities as follows:
I. Remove the sod layer with a sod cut',•-r, then
remove the buildup of 9 to 11 inch(, of top
soil; backfill with sand; add no rc1 than three
to four inches of top soil on top f the new
sand; then replace the sod. Work ti two to
three weeks. Recovery time three to ''ive weeks.
Estimated cost $25,000 to $35,000.
2. Sand Injection - sand injection in•.,:' :L.s cutting
slots 9 inches deep with sand being i-riected as
the soil from the slots is remove(3. 6;,:rk time
one week. Recovery time one to two 4ks.
Estimated cost $23,000 to $25,000.
A company well known in the sand injection 1,:. , ; ,.ess is Turf
Specialists Corp. of Holbrook, New York, who ,;-)resents
Cambridge Soil Services Limited of Cambrici;P, 7'rgland.
Mr. Jerome Hutchinson of Turf Specialist Corp. !id the
inventor of the Cambridge drainage system wi],.=ionate their
sand injection system to the Orange Bowl thus >--,y ng the

® PIPE DRAINS
Scheme design is precisely calculated for each site so that a stated dl : ' age capacity is
guaranteed at the most economic cost possible. Installation is to the Iest standards;
back -fill material is tested for the required hydraulic conductivity v..!- ':t discouraging
the infiltration of fines.
® SAND SLIT MATRIX
Cambridge has developed a unique range of specialised, patented ,- chines for the
rapid installation of different sizes of sand slits:-
CAMBRIDGE SURFACE BANDING
The Cambridge Two -Stage Hopper for the
installation of major water -carrying gravel/sand
slits which enable pipe drains to be designed at
wider centres, thus decreasing the overall costs
whilst increasing the drainage intensity.
CAI it RIDGE ii`•JJ'Li:...'. ',/PLACEMENT
Intermediate sized sand :its installed at close
centres — say 500mm -- that all surface water
must be close to a chann,:: %%' •'ch connects with the
pipe drains. Costs are :,rerate because the
specialised machines can ' il 8,000 linear m per
day.

CAMBRIDGE SAND GROOVER
Ultra intensive surface drains 100mm deep at
200mm centres — 40,000 linear metres installed
in a pitch in one day. This can be part of an initial
design or added at a later stage either to increase
the drainage capacity or to re -new the connections
between the surface and "capped" parts of the
existing system.
