(3) This department recommends City sponsorship to assist the City of Miami Youth Baseball Academies, Inc. in conducting the Second Annual City of Miami Youth Baseball Series, August 15 - 22, 1983, including a $10,000 grant, use of Miami Stadium, and in -kind services of the Recreation Department. The City of Miami Youth Baseball Academies, Inc. is presently formu- lating plans to conduct the Second Annual Youth Baseball Series (Little League World Series) scheduled for August 15 - 22, 1983. Last year's inaugural event, held August 23 - 28 at Miami Stadium, included five teams from Venezuela, Puerto Rico, Japan, Mexico and USA -Miami which attracted over 6,000 spectators. Funding was composed of a $10,000 contribution from the City and $14,000 in gate receipts which covered rooms, food, banquet, uniforms, trophies, and trans- portation. This year's event has drawn ten confirmed teams from Japan, Spain, Aruba, Taiwan, Korea, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Venezuela, Curacao, and the U. S. A. Games are tentatively scheduled for Miami Stadium and possibly Mark Light Field. Due to the expansion of this tournament, organizers are seeking additional funding through corporate support from the Burger King Corporation in the amount of $25,000. A line item budget is enclosed with the breakdown of expenses. We believe this Series will significantly enhance our efforts toward future growth of youth baseball in Miami as well as offer inter- national exposure of Miami in the name of our great American pastime. Therefore, the Department of Recreation recommends the City help sponsor this event by contributing $10,000, use of Miami Stadium, and in -kind services of the Recreation Department. This is the same contribution made by the City last year. A I* FACT SHEET EVALUATION CITY OF MIAr4I YOUTH BASEBALL ACADEMIES, INC. 2540 S.
