FLORIDA INTER -OFFICE MEMORANDUM I' $ TC. Howard V. Gary L:-4 E April 13, 1983 FILE B-3148Y City Manager CITY OF MIAMI/UNIVERSITY OF MIAM: JAMES L. KNIGHT INTERNATIONAL CENTER - ENTRANCE CANOPY Donald W.' Cather Ir,. _F, Resolution for Increase in Director -of Pu 'c W rks Incidental Expense Funds (For Commission Meeting of May 12, 198 3 ) It is recommended that a resolution be adopted authorizing an increase in the fund allocated to cover the cost of such items as advertising, testing laborato- ries and postage, not to exceed $5,000 for the City of Miami/University of Miami James L. Knight International Center - Entrance Canopy project. When the contract was awarded to MET Construction, Inc., for the construction of the City of Miami/University of Miami James L. Knight International Center - Entrance Canopy project, by Reso- lution No. 83-29, dated January 13, 1983 the standard formula for estimating the incidental expense needed for the project was used. We failed to note that the contract documents required extensive laboratory testing of the welds in the structural steel frame the contractor was to build. The extensive testing is re- quired because of the excessive wind loads the canopy is likely to receive during hurricanes. It is necessary to increase the appropriation for incidental expense on this project by an amount not to exceed $5,000 to cover the additional cost involved. Allan Poms, Director, Convention Center, has verified that funds for the increase are available from the original source of funding of the project, the account entitled, "City of Miami/University of Miami James L. Knight International Center and Parking Garage." L s mh / esolution Attached 83"R 14
