Re: Changeover Transition Period
Zoning Ordinance 6871 to
Zoning Ordinance 9500
Dear Mavor Ferre,
Tile Florida South Chapter of the American Institute of Architects is in
full support of the new zoning ordinance and requests that you do not
delay adoption of this new ordinance. We are fully aware that imperfections
in the ordinance do exist and we will be most willing to work with your
committee to make anv necessary revisions.
Manv of our architects have expressed concern regarding the problem
which immediate implementation of Ordinance 9500 may create for those
who have received preliminary verbal. approval or who have applied for
public hearing or permit under Ordinance 6871.
Although official written approval, either by public hearing or by
permit may not have been granted, the design process may he well under
way.
There is no provision for situations of these types in the text of the
new zoning ordinance and we fear that an immediate change over to the
new regulations could result in considerable hardship for those individuals
who have begun planning under Ordinance 6871. An immediate change over
would necessitate redesign under new regulations. We, therefore, request
you pass the necessary legislation providing for a transition period
during which projects may he approved under Ordinance 6871 to Ordinance.
9500.
We appreciate your continued consideration and look forward to working
with the City on the implementation of Zoning Ordinance 9500. T
