As a follow-up to our memorandum of April 13, 1983, concerning the City of Miami
Minority Business Trade Progran, we are pleased to inform you that a Trade Mission
to the Bahamas hes been scheduled for June 13 through 16, 1983. An IOGA (Industry
Organized Government Approved) status has been granted to the Mission by the U.S.
Departments of Coa-merce and State.
On April 13, 1983, Mr. Pete Genero of the State of Florida Department of Commerce
and I, met with the U.S. Ambassador in the Bahamas, Lev E. Dobriansky and the
Commercial Attachd at the U.S. Embassy in Nassau, Ismael Lara, to lay the ground-
work for the Mission. A final advance trip is scheduled for May 18, 1983, at
which tinie all final. arrangements will be made.
Funds to be expended by the City will cover the costs of having a part-time
appointment coordinator and a reception to be hosted by the U.S. Ambassador on
June 13, 1933. U.S. Embassy officials strongly recommended that Mlayor Ferrd and
Members of the City Commission attend the reception.
Funds for those services are available in the department's Operating Budget for
trade promotion activities. Negotiations are also underway with the State of
Florida Department of Commerce, to amend our contract to include coverage for
such promotional activities. Selected minority companies will absorb all direct
participation costs.
This program, designed to increase the involvement o
