RITA JOHNSON WILDER TO DESIGN AND CONSTRUCT RECREATIONAL FACILITIES IN KENNEDY PARK THUS SATISFYING THE GRANT MATCHING REQUIREMENT OF THE METRO -DADS DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL RESOURCES MANAGEMENT BISCAYNE BAY RESTORATION AND ENHANCEMENT P RO G RAM . WHEREAS, the City of Miami is interested in designinq and constructing recreational facilities including boardwalks, shoreline stabilization, and related site work, to be located in Kennedy Park; and WHEREAS, the City Manager through the Department of Parks has applied for grant funds in the amount of $200,000 from the Metro -Dade Department of Environmental Resources Manage- ment Biscayne Bay Restoration and Enhancement Program; and WHEREAS, this program will enable the City of Miami to upgrade the quality of Kennedy Park; and WHEREAS, the City of Miami has been designated eligible to be a recipient of these funds; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Rita Johnson Wilder on behalf of Y_he Wilder Foundation, has generously made a cash donation of $45,000 for the construction of a picnic pavilion in Margaret Pace Park in accordance with Resolution No. 80-902 adopted December 17, 1980; and WHEREAS, residents in the surrounding areas of. Margaret Pace Park vociferously opnosed said construction; and WHEREAS, said construction plans were discontinued; and WHEREAS, the Department of Parks requests authorization to re-desiqnate and utilize the sum of $45,000.00 Plus accrued interest of the forementioned donation by Mrs. Wilder in order to satisfy the City's grant matching Portion requirement of $50,000.00; and C111.1 ' COMMISSION 14EETING3 OF J U N 9 1983 �RVOLI,Iisi,.. ,..._ 83-: 05. WHEREAS, Mrs. Wilder on behalf of the T,lilder Foundation has verbally expressed approval of the re -designation of the said funds. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COM1MISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The City Commission hereby authorizes the re -designation of Mrs. Rita Johnson Wilder's donation of $45,000.00 plus accrued interest in accordance with Resolution No. 80-902 for the purpose of designing and constructing recreational facilities in Kennedy Park. Section 2. The City Commission hereby acknowledges the sum of $45,000.00 plus accrued interest to be the grant matching portion requirement of the Metro -Dade Department of Environmental Resources Manaqement Biscayne Bay Restoration and Enhancement Program. Item for City Commission ENCLOSURES Meeting of May 12/83/ "It is recommended that the City Commission authorize re -designation of a $45,000 cash donation plus accrued interest from :Mrs. Rita Johnson Wilder to design and construct recreational facilities in Kennedy Park." The Department of Parks, in an effort to improve and stabilize the shoreline of Kennedy Park has successfully sought grant funds from the Metro -Dade Department of Environmental Resources IN Biscayne Bay Restoration and Enhancement Program. Through this program, portions of certain recreational facilities will be designed and constructed including: boardwalk, shoreline stabilization, and related site work. In 1980, :ors. Rita Johnson Wilder, on behalf of the Wilder Foundation, made a cash donation of $45,000 for the construction of a picnic pavilion in :Margaret Pace Park in accordance with Resolution No. 80-902 adopted December 17, 1980; however, cons- truction plans were abandoned when the citizens in the surround- ing area of Pace Park opposed the construction. In an effort to meet the $50,000 Metro Dade grant matching funds requirement, the Department of Parks sought and received Mrs. Wilder's approval to re -allocate her donation of $45,000 plus accrued interest for the Kennedy Park Project.
