Item for City Commission
ENCLOSURES Meeting of May 12/83/
"It is recommended that the City Commission
authorize re -designation of a $45,000 cash
donation plus accrued interest from :Mrs.
Rita Johnson Wilder to design and construct
recreational facilities in Kennedy Park."
The Department of Parks, in an effort to improve and stabilize
the shoreline of Kennedy Park has successfully sought grant
funds from the Metro -Dade Department of Environmental Resources
IN Biscayne Bay Restoration and Enhancement Program. Through this
program, portions of certain recreational facilities will be
designed and constructed including: boardwalk, shoreline
stabilization, and related site work.
In 1980, :ors. Rita Johnson Wilder, on behalf of the Wilder
Foundation, made a cash donation of $45,000 for the construction
of a picnic pavilion in :Margaret Pace Park in accordance with
Resolution No. 80-902 adopted December 17, 1980; however, cons-
truction plans were abandoned when the citizens in the surround-
ing area of Pace Park opposed the construction.
In an effort to meet the $50,000 Metro Dade grant matching funds
requirement, the Department of Parks sought and received Mrs.
Wilder's approval to re -allocate her donation of $45,000 plus
accrued interest for the Kennedy Park Project. This money will
be the City match for the S200,000 to be received from the Metro -
Dade Bav Restoration fund.
