suitable and aDpropriate name for the City of Miami
Morninnside Park tennis farilit ies at `:.F. 55th Terrace and
niscayne Bay; and
WHEREAS, on May 12, 19,93, the City fommission adopters
Hot ion 93-378 which referred to a request made by Mr. Dan, id
T. Kennedy to consider naming the t 0 n n i 3 farilities at
Morninrlside Park in honor of John "Slim" Harhett; and

Miami Parks and Recreation Department from 1953 to 1973; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Harhett is also known ai "Mr. Tennis"
herau se of his ont hits i nsm for and his promotion of this sport;
and
WHEREAS, those who have benefited From his tutelage
include Doris Hart, Dick Savitt, Gussy 'loran, and Gardnar
Malloy; and
WHEREAS, the Miami Memorial Committee and the Parks
Department have reviewed this request and recommend that the
tennis facilities at ►dornirigs ide Park he named the "John
'Slim' Harbett Morninqside Park Tennis Center";
NOW, THEREFORE, BE I T RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA:
Section 1. The City of Miami Morningside Park tennis
facilities, at N.E. 55th Terrace and Biscayne flay, are hereby
named the "John 'Slim' Harhett Morningside Park Tennis
Center" in recognition and in honor of Mr. John Harbett'9
distinguished service to thcttizens of the City of Miami.
