It is recommended that Section 1. of Ordinance
No. 6719, adopted on October 26, 1977, the
Summary Grant Appropriations Ordinance, be
amended by establishing a new trust and agency
fund entitled Summer Food Service for Children
1983 and appropriating funds in the amount of
$133,532 from the U. S. Department of Agriculture,
as per the attached Ordinance.
The Summer Food Service Program is being funded for the fifteenth
(15) year by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
The program will provide lunches to children 18 and under at twenty
four (24) City of Miami parks and playgrounds during the summer
months, June 20th through August 12, 1983. Approximately 2,300
lunches will be served daily, 88,140 for the total program which
also funds monitors and site personnel, mileage, and clerical costs
to ensure proper guidelines are followed.
Funding in the amount of $133,532 is derived as follows: A $1.515
reimbursement to the City for each of the 88,140 lunches served;
$1.405 for lunch and operational cost, and 11 cents for administra-
tive cost.
In providing a balanced meal to under privileged children, parental
relationships with recreation staff are enhanced, and additional
employment opportunities are made available.
_ Therefore, it is the recommendation of the Department of Recreation
that this new Trust and Agency fund be established as an amendment
to Ordinance No. 8719, as amended, and appropriate said funds to this
program.
