A RESOLUTION RATIFYING AND CONFIRMING THE
ACTION OF THE CITY MANAGER IN APPROVING THE
EMERGENCY PURCHASE OF ADDITIONAL EQUIPMENT TO
BE INSTALLED ON THE SIX (6) FIRE APPARATUS
PUMPERS NOW SEING MANUFACTURED BY PIERCE
MANUFACTURING COMPANY, INC. AT A TOTAL COST
OF S8,178 FOR THE DEPARTMENT OF FIRE, RESCUE
AND INSPECTION SERVICES; USING FUNDS THEREFOR
FROM THE 1981 FIREFIGHTING FIRE PREVENTION
AND RESCUE FACILITIES BOND FUND.
WHEREAS, the City Commission approved Resolution No. 82-782
on September 9, 1982; and
WHEREAS, Resolution No. 32-782 authorized the purchase of
six (6) Fire Apparatus (1250 GPM Pumpers) under Metropolitan Dade
County Contract No. 8782 from Pierce Manufacturing Company,
Inc.; and
WHEREAS, the Fire Apparatus Pumpers are currently under
construction by Pierce Manufacturing Company, Inc.; and
WHEREAS, additional equipment is required to improve safety,
maintenance, and radio installation; and
WHEREAS, this additional equipment is available from the
manufacturer, Pierce Manufacturing Company, Inc., at a total cost
of $1,363 per apparatus; and
WHEREAS, on June 13, 1983 the City Manager authorized the
emergency purchase from Pierce Manufacturing Company, Inc. to
avoid undue delay in placing these vehicles in service; and
WHEREAS, funds for this purchase are available in the 1981
Firefighting, Fire Prevention and Rescue Facilities Bond Fund;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI, FLORIDA:
Section 1. The action of the City Manager in authorizing
the emergency purchase of additional equipment to be installed
on the six (6) Fire Apparatus Pumpers now being manufactured by
Pierce Manufacturinq Company, Inc. at a total cost of $8,178, for
the Department of Fire, Rescue and Inspection

On September 9, 1982, the City Carmission approved the purchase of six
(6) Fire Apparatus (1250 gpn Pxrzpers) under a Metropolitan -Dade County
contract with Pierce Manufacturing Company at a total cost of $878,706,
(Resolution No. 82-782).
These pumpers are being manufactured and the first two (2) are scheduled
to be ready for delivery 6/24/83, with two (2) to follow in July and two
(2) in August. Pierce Manufacturing Company has been willing to delay
final assembly and painting to acccaTmodate the addition of eight (8)
changes in the specifications. We are requesting these Changes to -
improve safety, maintenance, and radio installation. The below listed
items are priced to include installation on six (6) Fire, Apparatus.

Inasmuch as the six (6) apparatus are still on the asse-nbly line and
being manufactured, it is requested that the changes be approved on an
emergency basis to prevent a delay in delivery, with Comission ratifica-
tion June 15, 1983.

ENCLOSURES. Resolution
It is recommended that a resolution be passed authorizing
the purchase of additional equipment to be mounted on the
six (6) Fire Apparatus (1250 GPM Pumpers) now on order
through an existing Metropolitan Dade County Bid #8782-
C.E.C.-CW from Pierce Manufacturing, Inc., such equipment
to cost $1,363 per pumper, for a total cost of $8,178.
By Resolution #82-782, the City Commission approved the purchase of six (6)
Fire Apparatus through an existing Metropolitan Dade County Bid at a total -
cost of $878,706. These pumpers were purchased under Dade County specifica-
tions and there are certain changes and modifications which we require for
City of Miami Fire Apparatus. The following equipment is required for mod-
ification to the pumpers ordered by the City of Miami:
1. Steel Body Fenderettes

Item #6 is included in the Dade County Bid #8782-C.E.C.-CW. The remaining
items, although not included in the bid, are offered by the manufacturer,
Pierce Mfg., Inc. at the prices indicated. Inasmuch as these pumpers are
still on the assembly line, we are requesting City Commission approval of
this additional purchase from the manufacturer of this apparatus.
