SUBJECT: Discussion of Parking at
FROM: Roger M. Caq
David T. Kennedy Park t
Director Department f'fS
In a recent meeting with Carl Kern, Director of Parks and Recreation, the
parking situation at David T. Kennedy Park was discussed. The capacity of
the existing unimproved parking lot is approximately 50 cars. On weekends
vehicles are parked illegally on the right of way of Bayshore Drive which
causes significant problems for neighboring residents.
The Department has reviewed this situation and determined it would be
feasible to develop an improved parking lot for approximately 150 vehicles.
The cost of this facility would be approximately $100,000. The Department
would be compensated through the installation of parking meters. The
possibility of cooperative development of parking facilities with the
Off -Street Parking Department and the Parks and Recreation Department is a
new concept. Therefore, it is requested that you schedule the item for the
Committee of the Whole on the July 18, 1983 agenda in order to determine if
the Commission wishes to adopt a policy of the Off -Street Parking Department
and the Parks and Recreation Department cooperating in the construction of
parking facilities when feasible.
