HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-83-0643J-83-534 RESOLUTION NO. Cis}"'��ai'. A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO INCREASE THE CONTRACT COST OF THE EXISTING PROFESSIONAL SERVICES AGREEMENT WITH E. H. FRIEND & CO., FOR EXPERT ACTUARIAL ASSISTANCE IN PENSION MATTERS IN AN ADDITIONAL AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $45,000, WITH FUNDS THEREFOR ALLOCATED FROM SPECIAL PROGRAMS AND ACCOUNTS. WHEREAS, the City of Miami is concerned about the fiscal stability of its municipal operations; and WHEREAS, by Resolution No. 82-1123, the City Commission authorized the City Manager to negotiate and execute a Professional Services Agreement with E. II. Friend & Co., for expert actuarial assistance in pension matters; and WHEREAS, on October 1, 1982 a Professional Services Agreement was executed for a term of one year commencing on October 1, 1982 and termi- nating September 30, 1983; and WHEREAS, recent state and federal laws have made Pension funding and administration more complex and demanding; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The City Manager is hereby authorized to increase the contract cost of the existing Professional Services Agreement with E. H. Friend & Co., for expert actuarial assistance in pension matters by the expenditure of additional funds for the said increase in an amount not to exceed $45,000 which is hereby allocated from Special Programs and Accounts. H. Friend & Co., for assistance in pension matters, be adopted. The firm of E. H. Friend & Company has assisted the City for several years in the preparation of Pension Valuation Reports and other pension related matters. It is necessary at this time to extend the existing professional service agreement with this consultant to cover the cost of additional work required, including assistance in negotiating outstanding pension litigation. 83-643,
