ENCLOSURES
"It is recommended that the City Manager
be authorized to accept a Small Business
Administration Park and Recreation Area
Development Program grant from the Flo-
rida Department of Community Affairs
in the amount of $198,728, for planting
and playground improvement projects
and that he also be authorized to execute
the appropriate agreement to implement
the grant."
The Small Business Administration Park and Recreation Area Develop-
ment Program was initiated and funded as a result of the Emergency
Jobs Bill recently enacted by Congress. The program is administered
by the Florida Department of Commerce which has determined that the
City of Miami is eligible to receive $198,728 from said funds.
The grant carries no matching requirement, but does have other
requirements which include executing the agreement by July 25, 1983,
issuing all contracts to small businesses with 70 or fewer employees,
and completing all projects by September 30, 1983.
The Parks Department is in the process of identifying planting and
playground improvement projects in City parks which will meet the
requirements of the grant. However, the implementation of the
grant hinges upon Commission action during its July 18, 1983
meeting.
