Re: Emergency Repairs to the Domestic Water and Fire Pumps at Gusman
Cultural Center and the Olympia Building
Dear Howard:
A recent inspection of the plumbing equipment serving the Gusman
Cultural Center and Olympia Office Building has revealed that it is
imperative to replace both the fire pump for the fire standpipe system
and the secondary domestic water pump serving both facilities. This
equipment is original, dating back to 1926 and is not operational. The
Department is proceeding to replace both of these pumps on an emergency
basis since sanitary facilities would not be operational if the domestic
pump fails and fire suppression is not in compliance with the Code of the
City of Miami.
Estimates for replacement of this equipment total $25,400; $22,000 for
the fire pump and $3,400 for the domestic water pump. Since neither the
operating or capital budgets anticipated this extraordinary expense it is
requested that the City fund the cost as an emergency expense item at the
earliest possible time. We have placed the order for the new pumps which
require approximately a 90 day lead time.
Please schedule this item for confirmation at the next City Commission
meeting.
