SERVICES FOR ITS VIGOROUS EFFORT IN THE
F_NFORCFMENT OF THE SOUTH FLORIDA BUILDING
CODE IN THE CITY OF 141AMI AND URGING
CONTINUATION OF I15 REVII:-W OF POSSIBLE
AMENDMENT fO THOSE Sf_:CIIONS OF SAID CODE::
DEALING WITFI THE STORAGE OF 0N-51TF
BUILDING MATERIALS; FURTHER URGING THE
BOARD OF' COUNTY COMMISSIONERS TO CONDUCT

COUNTY -WIDE WITH fHE PROBLEM OF SAFE
STORAGE OF ON -SITE BUILDING MATERIALS,
INCLUDING SAND, LUMBER AND THE REMOVAL OF
WASfF MATERIAL RUBBISH RESULTING FROM
BUILDING OPERATIONS.
WHEREAS, recent tragedies have occurrad in Dade County
as a result. of small children wandering upon "sand piles"
which have heen created by contractors or Land owners
permitting enormous quantities of sand needed durinq
construction activity to remain unused at building sites; and
WHEREAS, the splendid inspection effort of the Miami
Department of Fire, Rescue and Inspection Services is limited
by exisLirig sections of the C i t y ' s Building Code, also
reFerred to as the South Florida Building Code, which is an
ordinance of Dade County; and
WHEREAS, a study and review of the Building Code is
being conducted by the Department with the purpose of
recommending that strict provisions be enacted to control
on -site storage of building materials such as sand and dirt,
as well as the accumulation of waste material rubbish
resulting from building operations;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA:
Section 1. The Board of County Commissioners of
Metropolitan Dade County is hereby urged to conduct a study
and analysis of those provisions of the South Florida
building Code, a Dade County ordinance, which deal with the
problem of unsafe storage of on -site building materials,
